Argentina's Jorge Mario Bergoglio elected Pope

The 115 cardinals have been in isolation since Tuesday afternoon, and held four inconclusive votes.
At least 77 of them, or two-thirds, would have had to vote for a single candidate for him to be elected Pope.
Before the conclave began, there was no clear frontrunner to replace Benedict.

From what I've learned about him, he seems like a very humble man, but he does have a lot of work ahead of him. I think he may be able to reconnect with the average Catholic like JPII was able to, but I don't know if he'll be able to tackle the issues at the top of the Vatican. But maybe he'll get the ball rolling for his eventual successor.

The guy doesn't even LOOK Latino. Every news network is calling him that. His entire background is Italian... it's just bugging me is all.

Seems like a good choice, particularly with the controversy surrounding the Vatican's funds. However, I don't support the papacy or the doctrine of papal authority.

Anyone who thinks one of the most strict religious institution in the world is going to turn their backs on a five thousand year old teaching overnight is incredibly naiive. Honestly, this new pope seems to be a humble man of the people. He lives in a small apartment in Buenos Aires and denied the private Archbishop car, taking a bus to work.
