an "arm" is a word for weapon.
However weapons of mass destruction and other "destructive devices" are illegal.

Okay.... Guns and WMD's are both arms. So how do you know how far are founding fathers wanted us to go? I'm sure they would consider a gun from this time a WMD so how do you know they didn't exclusively mean muskets?

Edited by Funkbrotha10: 3/12/2013 4:27:12 PMThey meant Arms. Arms as in weapons / guns. Back then arms were muskets or those flintlock type hand cannons. Now our arms are semi automatic handguns, rifles. bolt action rifles / etc. The definition of "arms" has not changed since it was written. They did not exclusively mean muskets because they did not say so. They said "Arms" There is no way to determine their actual intentions. So all we have is what was written

Then why aren't nuclear arms acceptable to own? They didn't mention those either. Just because they didn't draw a line doesn't mean people should be able to go "HURR DURR The 2nd amendmunt sais i can have guns1!1!1!11!1!!!. And use it to justify their personal beliefs.

The second amendment does say you can own guns.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed

shall not be infringed
/Thread

It says arms... Not once did it say guns. Do you not understand what I'm saying?
-
Yes or no. Are guns a type of arm?
-
Yes. So are nuclear bombs, knives, and spears. As you quoted it says the right to bare arms cannot be infringed. So by that logic we should be able to have access to nuclear bombs. What I'm trying to say is just because someone made a vague statement in the past doesn't mean people should follow it and act as if it's still relevant.

You are absolutely right, We should be able to own nuclear bombs, knives and spears But right now thats illegal. ( UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!!!! ) If you feel like your rights have been violated you are free to file a lawsuit against the federal government in attempt to seek legal recourse.
