I have actually had this in my mind since the first time I saw the reveal vidoc. I think maybe the thing that human kind got out of control and tried to take over the universe, but the other species got together to stop us using the traveller. I think it is there to confine us beneath. I know this might not make a lot of sense since supposedly character powers are derived from the traveller, but whatever... It's speculation!
