The only other documented case of an HIV cure to date remains that of Timothy Brown, the so-called "Berlin patient." In 2006, while on treatment for HIV, Mr. Brown was diagnosed with leukemia. His physician was able to treat his leukemia with a stem-cell transplant from a person who was born with a genetic mutation causing immunity to HIV infection. Following the transplant, Mr. Brown was able to stop HIV treatment without experiencing a return of his HIV disease.
why the fuck aren't we doing this, or at least growing the gene in bacteria

Probably because stem cells are still pretty controversial. That, and the fact that knowledge of genetics probably isn't large enough to "grow" genes just yet.

Ah, okay then. Then the only logical and rational explanation is corporate conspiracy.

Sounds like it was an adult stem cell, though. Those ones aren't controversial at all.

I always thought stem cells could only be obtained from foetuses, though ?
-
No, they can be obtained from adults, too. The adult ones tend to be less volatile and easier to work with, but they're also less flexible in what they can do than the embryonic ones are. I'm assuming that this was accomplished with adult stem cells because the article says they were taken from someone "born with" that genetic mutation.

Cuz Government, Doctors, FDA?, and money hungry people that would rather have income from the drugs people buy to try to keep HIV at bay.

Corporate conspiracies, eh ?
-
Its possible.

Unfortunately, it is. Ever seen The Constant Gardener ?
