I've been wondering not just where the Traveler came from, but when. The Vex are time traveling robots, could the Traveler be somehow connected to them?

I think it was sent back from the future to save the Human race from becoming extinct, which result in some type of crazy intergalactic war.

I agree on that, I feel like they were hunting the traveler and now are here to stop us before we discover something within it or about it.

That's something to think about. I thought maybe it came back to save humanity/give the Guardians the power to change the future. I really like your theory though.
