Seen this a nice while ago now and it's safe to say I was rather disappointed. Don't get me wrong, she's pretty in a more average, cute, girl next door kind of way but not the Mary Jane I've always been a fan of. My biggest disappointment is the fact she looks so damn young compared to Emma Stone. They're both going to be love interests however this chick looks so inferior to Stone, there shouldn't be any competition. What I believe is that they were aiming for this newer girl next door Mary Jane. If so they hit spot on, but that's not the Mary Jane I've grown up with. I've always known her as this sexy, cat like, sassy chick and was hands down (imo) the hotter of the three love interests. This is the Mary Jane I prefer. Kirsten Dunst actually wasn't that bad as MJ, appearance wise. However she wasn't as sexy and confident as I always pictured MJ to be. Well at least we still have Emma Stone and (apparently playing Black Cat) Felicity Jones. It's too bad they're completely going to overshadow Mary Jane, at least I think they will.

A nice few people has told me I look like an actual real Mary Jane, some people from high school gave it to me as a nickname because of it but nobody calls me that anymore.

  • Hold up, people tell you, that you look like an actual Mary Jane? Or similar to Mary Jane as in the actress Kirsten Dunst? Just wondering.

  • If only grabbing Mary Jane from the comics to the real world was possible.... Damn!

The director confirmed that Mary Jane is going to play a very big role in the third film, but a very minor one in the second. I don't think Black Cat will play a very big role, wasn't she only Peter's temporary girlfriend when Mary Jane broke up with him?

  • I honestly thought it was strange how they're going to introduce two new love interests in one movie. Black Cat falls in love with SpiderMan though, not Peter Parker.

Yeah, I don't really have high hopes for this new "Amazing" Spiderman trilogy, but the director of it also directed a really good Indie film, 500 Days of Summer, so maybe he'll be able to make a decent follow up. Also thanks for clarifying the Black Cat in love with Spiderman thing, I'm not too familiar with the comics.

  • I didn't, but I was pleasantly surprised with the first one. IMO Emma Stone SHOULD have been Mary Jane, but they screwed that up. As for Black Cat, that was the one thing that really separated her from the rest of his love interests. She was actually disappointed when she found out he was Peter Parker because he was just a normal guy. They still ended up together for awhile but she screwed things up when she made a deal with Kingpin(? I believe) for superpowers and jinxed SpiderMan.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Shailey Woodley, she was in Cabin in the Woods, and her acting was decent at best in that. I don't think she'll make a very good Mary Jane, and will not be better than Kirsten Dunst's. But I like Andrew Garfield, he seems to be hitting the comic book version of Peter Parker/Spiderman nicely. I actually liked Emma Stone's portrayal as Gwen Stacy, even though I'm not much of a fan of her, and the fact that Amazing Spiderman was closer to the comics in the way the characters were portrayed. Like Raimi's portrayal of Peter being a crybaby, and Gwen being a ditzy blonde (if I remember from the comics, she was said to be a brilliant biochemistry student) but this movie felt kinda....cheesy. I mean there was a really cliche villain plot, Dr. Connor's family is never shown, the "untold story" was given like 5 minutes in the whole movie, Peter did stupid things like throw a football with massive force and break a basketball net, isn't he supposed to take measures to hid his identity rather than portray it? Also I don't think a 90 minute movie will do Black Cat any justice, while they also introduce Mary Jane, Rhino, Electro, Harry Osborne, Gwen's death, AND try to allude to this "untold story" a bit more. But I also hear they're going to make a Venom movie, and that it may follow the Ultimate Spiderman comics portrayal of him (which was way better than Earth 616's portrayal of him in my opinion).

I actually haven't seen her in any, so I'm still on the fence about her. Right now, I'm only going by her appearance which doesn't really scream "Mary Jane". However a lot of people didn't think Emma Stone would fit the role of Gwen, and I think she done a fine job so they could surprise us. I just wish she didn't look so damn young and average.
I actually liked Emma Stone's portrayal as Gwen Stacy, even though I'm not much of a fan of her, and the fact that Amazing Spiderman was closer to the comics in the way the characters were portrayed. However I really liked her as well in the first movie, and I wouldn't mind if they made her Peter's main love interest throughout the whole films. He even took off his mask multiple times in the movie, which was pretty stupid but meh, it's a movie. While I was dying for her to show up in the older SpiderMan movies, I think introducing her and Mary Jane in the same movie is a bit too much. Along with Gwen still being in the picture. Black Cat is actually a pretty interesting character and one of the main female "villains" in the SpiderMan stories.

Woops, she looked similar to one of the girls in the Cabin in the Woods (to me at least, but I saw that movie half asleep so I'm probably wrong), my bad. But apparently my sister thinks she's a decent actress at best after watching that show she's on...Secret Life of an American Teenager I think? Also, kind of an important spoiler about Gwen in the second movie, if you wanna read it. Also, spoiler above being kind of confirmed from Emma Stone's mouth, again if you're curious. Also, compared to Spiderman 1 and 2 from Sam Raimi's films, this new Amazing Spiderman trilogy seems kind of....kiddy to me. I can't really explain it, but the overall theme gives me the impression it's meant for a younger audience, whereas Raimi's films felt suitable even for the older audience. I think, for me at least, it's the lack of plot development (i..e nothing really much happened in the first one, uncle ben dies, peter becomes spiderman, falls in love with Gwen, fights Curt Connors, end film).

  • Sorry, I'm just seeing this now.
I know that Gwen dies but if they dragged it out till the last movie, I wouldn't complain. Although by the sounds of it, it might happen in the next.

Also, compared to Spiderman 1 and 2 from Sam Raimi's films, this new Amazing Spiderman trilogy seems kind of....kiddy to me. I mean, I still LOVE my superhero movies and I found both movies good, however they're obviously directed more towards a younger audience, which is probably why they cast that chick as Mary Jane.
