The assumption that those who are on welfare are druggies is incredibly insulting. We all recognize there are those who abuse the system (although I don't see how drugs factor in still), but it seems so many are oblivious to the fact that millions of Americans are genuinely struggling and rely on these safety-net programs.

  • They didn't say people who are on welfare are druggies. The point was that druggies shouldn't be getting welfare.

  •
The point was that druggies shouldn't be getting welfare.
Why not? They can't spend leftover money on things they enjoy?

  • If they have leftover money they should be saving up so they can hopefully get off welfare.

  • That's not your call. Leisure is a human right.

  • It is my call. I'm a taxpayer, and they are using my money.

  • Okay, take away the seven cents of your taxes that actually go to welfare. Such a big fucking deal.

  • I don't mind paying for welfare as long as its going to people who actually need it. It's when people start abusing the system that I have a problem.

Let me give you a scenario: John gets up at 8am, gets ready, eats breakfast, and is out the door by 8:30. He spends the entire day going to interviews, handing in applications, and looking for more jobs to apply to. He comes home at 10pm, eats dinner, reads a book for a while, then gets ready to go to bed. Seems like John is a healthy, productive citizen, right? But wait, we're not over yet. Before he goes to bed, he spends a spare $5 on some weed and smokes a half-joint. Then he calls it a day. Is everything suddenly wrong now? Is he now a lazy bum who abuses the system just because he smoked $5 worth of wed?

  • That wouldn't be a huge problem if that was actually how it worked. Plus if these laws were implemented I assume John would be smart enough to stop doing drugs because he would know that he would lose his welfare because of it.

  • Weed isn't a drug. And besides that, it's actually beneficial to your health. So if John "stopped doing it", it would just hurt him.

  • At this point I can't tell if you're just a really good troll or if you've been on drugs so long that you can actually convince yourself of this stuff. The only way that Marijuana can "be good for you" is if you are suffering from extreme pain and then it's still not good for you. Plus if he was doing Marijuana for that purpose, it would likely be legal and your argument would be invalid anyhow. If you need help on figuring out how Marijuana is a drug here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_(drug)

Weed not only helps you physically, but spiritually, as well. It increases your inner voice.
