First let me point out that I am new to these forums. I've been tooling around on this site for about two hours now but I may ask something that has already been mentioned. A friend of mine mentioned to me that bungee was coming out with an FPS MMO and my first thought was 'OH MY GOD THE PVP IS GOING TO BE AWSOME!'. Now I have played several MMO's in the past but I always found that Warhammer Online had the most intense and fun multiplayer, which did include fighting for resources and strongpoints on every map, but limited it to specific areas of those maps. I found a home in the PVP guild MORTALIS and I still think fondly of playing with those people. Now this thread suggests (note the underline) that their will not be any of this due to the fact that humanity has a common goal and not enough resources to fight aliens and each other (I'm sure that if we had the resources we'd be quite comfortable doing both), and I can not disagree with that analysis. But has anyone considered that the alien races might be playable? This was my thought as to how they could create factional fighting. The bottom line is that the only true challenge comes from other players. Without that I fear any game (and so far the games without have lived up to the following) will just be a PVE grindfest (one word). Where's the challenge of outsmarting an NPC? You just learn their pattern and its over, but a human player can adapt making fights far more interesting. I personally (an admitted PVPer) would be very dissappointed if this game did not have true factional open world fighting the story seems set up to support. If nothing else I do hope this sparks something in the devs. After recent releases of unfinished games, I would support a late release for a game including such qualities (Assuming they are not planning that already - in which case it had better be delivered on time lol). I also believe that if they want this game to last ten years then they will need these attributes, otherwise this game will be like borderlands 2 - a fun game that I play through once and the sell back to gamestop. On another note a friend of mine said this was for all consoles but I can find no information confirming that. Does anyone have a link for that? I still keep in touch with some of the people from MORTALIS and if this does have decent PVP they will be interested in it I am sure.

 • The confirmed competitive multiplayer. They haven't elaborated on how it works though.

 • Also bungie has been making console PvE games for years now where as MMOs focus more on the PvP side. imo bungie will be able to engage you with both pvp and pve

 • Bungie's games have been both PvE and PvP, but keep in mind the context. You don't usually wanna say that an FPS game is PvE/PvP, it's more MMO gameplay designation.

 • I agree. All I was saying is that Bungie has a lot of experience making enemy AIs.

 • First of all, welcome to Bungie.net :) Second, having grown up around MMO's throughout my childhood, I completely understand what you're saying. As a matter of fact, I'm experiencing this now in the Alpha of a game of which I'm really not allowed to mention. Though I've signed a crazy strict NDA for it, I AM allowed to say (from my own opinion) that PvE is somewhat of a drag and PvP is crazy fun (to an extent, but again, I can't say much else). Though the game seems to have a basic PvE aspect to it, I do believe that Bungie will provide much more advanced AI than the developer of the game I'm testing has produced. Having said that, I do see how PvE can easily turn into a grindfest. We do know there will be a mode similar to that of the regular gameplay in the game Dust 514 for PS3 (derivative of the EVE online Universe), so we do know there will be a PvP aspect to the game. Whether or not that supplements the main story is yet to be known. Though your analysis brings up an interesting point, will Destiny have a multi-focus PvE and PvP aspect in the main story? If so, I would be really interested to see how that would be pulled off given the story we konw so far. Regardless, I'm super excited for this and I'm glad to see more people from other corners of the gaming world venturing into Bungie's community. I've always felts slightly alone without any other hardcore PC MMO gamers around haha.

 • I think it's interesting you bring up Eve. Something I've been thinking about is two of Bungie's goals with this game. One, that it be accessible to casual gamers but challenging hardcore. Two, and I'm extropolating a bit here, that the game will provide a frame work for players to create their own stories. Ones that will dynamically shape the universe. I'm just interested in seeing how Bungie reconciles these two things. Eve does a great job with the latter, but most people know that with this freedom does not produce an evironment friendly to the casual gamer.
