No, most of the worst atrocities committed by man have been made over greed, ignorance, and malice. Those in power just called it religion in order to control Lenin's so-called useful idiots. Some of the best acts of humanitarian aid have been legitimately made because of religion; let's not overlook that.

Well religion is also often used to resolve cognitive dissonance when committing atrocities in general as well. It's pretty unfortunate.
