I stopped standing for the pledge in high school. Usually, when the morning announcements started, people would just keep talking, so we couldn't hear the pledge anyway.

Completely unrelated but this brings back my memory of the most frustrating morning announcements I ever experienced: that of Sep. 11, 2001, when all of us in 2nd period were trying to watch live coverage of that day's events. It's an odd thing to be in a class where people occasionally yelled "shut up!" to the wall-mounted speaker, because they couldn't hear the TV.
