Russia calls for International Anti-Asteroid Defense System.
Yeah, so Russia is alarmed because of that asteroid which passed by today and because a meteor crashed into Russia yesterday. There's also the Tunguska Event when a meteor blew up in midair over Russia in 1908.
I support this, an anti-asteroid system is the first step to having orbital defense grids and militarized spaceships against hostile extra-terrestrial forces.
Any thoughts?

Yeah, we should have a defense grid. Better to be safe then... well... blasted into a pool of molten slag by an asteroid imact...

1 ReplyWe don't have the technology to accurately track all asteroids of such a small size as the one that his Russia, let alone the sophisticated targeting systems to do anything about asteroids that actually do get detected. Without belittling the cost of human life, it's financially and logistically unfeasible to pursue that technology.

It's not inconceivable that, despite our best efforts and the advantages of modern technology, we might be unaware of potential threats to our planet until a relatively short amount of time before they impact. The most prudent course of action, therefore, is to have a plan ready to be enacted beforehand, in case such a scenario ever arises.

This is a good opportunity for the World's space agencies to flex their muscles and show us what they can do. Yeah America isn't footing the bill solely and if such a project happens and it would barely measure a blip on your taxes. Besides, space is the future and we should be investing as much as we can into it.

Awesome, it's about time. 500 people got injured and this wasn't even supposed to get close to us. It's time we start looking to protect our planet from Orbit. As long as we keep it facing away from the skies. Make sure a separate, universal faction is made to be in charged, comprised of people different places. Control of that be used only with united codes or something and any overrides taken very seriously. Or we can build a giant shield? Why do we never build giant shields?

NASA already has an Anti-Asteroid system. And with Lockheed Martin announcing their new laser weapon system a few months ago all Russia has to do is show up with a very big check and they got themselves a Anti-Asteroid system.
