I'm pretty sure I read on the Misriah ARG page (not sure if it's the old one or the newer one...) that it is actually dots on a globe based on activity, then put through a series of mathematical transforms such as stretching, tilting, etc. to create a symmetric map of dots.

Bastards! I was beginning to weigh conceding that I was doubting that the rotational speed was any different. Hopefully those mathematical transformations simulate real world forces and the symmetry is just there to make it harder to determine the exact nature of the sphere Somebody tell me if they think I've taken it too far
-
Not sure, though the transformations can't be too complex. Upon seeing the first gif of the geomasks, I definitely noticed it was rotating about the verticle axis.

There's just so much that seems connected it can't be coincidence, the 45 tilt can't just be there to fill out the top. It never snows in the Philippines but there it is, snow in the mountains
http://assets2.ignimgs.com/2012/11/28/destiny-12jpg-843121.jpg
Doesn't the Earth rotate on an axis something close to 45 degrees of it's orbit plane ?
-
The Earth would need to increase it's axial tilt by 37.8764 degrees for a total of 61.3764 degree axial tilt to achieve a similar latitude. In my sleep deprived state I spent way too long trying to change to decimals minutes'seconds" for length and that conversion doesn't even make any sense. I hope the math is right
-
no it's actually around 23.5 but (I'm doing the math, among other things) I think if it was closer to 45 then Puerto Princesa would be around seattle's latitude (wild guess)

Someone has theorised that aliens have calculated the orbits of all the planets in our solar system/galaxy and has placed the planets in their appropriate orbits and rotations, so perhaps they are responsible for this supposed 45 degree axis. Either that, or the 45 degrees is accounted for by the transformations used by Bungie.
