You realize the police didn't burn down the house right? Also is this confirmed to be true?

On the Police scanners they said keep the fire going They technically did

The tear gas canisters may have caused the fire. The fire did start shortly after they began firing 40mm tear gas grenades into the cabin but this has yet to be determined.

Ok maybe they did, but even so they had no reason to believe he had hostages there (and he probably didn't, I've yet to see a real source). The man had already shot several of their men and they didn't want to lose more by prolonging the engagement, lighting the house on fire could have at least flushed him out.
