"Went to bad guy school...and came out with an accent." I laughed at that. The review gave me a good idea of how the game plays out, gameplay-wise. However, your commentary on the story seemed a little inconsistent. You at first praised it, then talked about how it was underwhelming compared to the rest of the game, but then later stated you were happy with it. Also, I would recommend trimming the length. The pacing was slow in parts, a little bit lagging I would say. Not that it was bad, but you could have made almost all of the same points in about four minutes less. 7-8 minutes is perfect for a video review, in my opinion. Other than that, I enjoyed watching it. It gave me a feel for how the game played out. I disagreed with some of your points, but that doesn't mean I think it was a bad review, just one I disagreed with. I definitely felt informed by it. Good effort, I look forward to your next review.

  • Thank you! What points did you disagree with? And I really do need to organize my points better. An outline will help next time with Crysis 3. Aliens will not be graced with my efforts!

  • I just don't think the game looks all that interesting, really. I liked Dead Space because it was scary a lot of the time for me. Dead Space 2 I liked, but I got bored when it stopped being so scary and started being more action-oriented. Dead Space 3, going off your comments and the gameplay I've seen, looks even less interested in being a full-blown scary game as opposed to just a slightly spooky action game. So for me, there's really no reason to buy Dead Space 3 if it's not as scary.

  • Indeed it is not "scary" say on the scales of Amnesia or other games of that type. But it does a fantastic job of building tension and adrenalin pulsing moments. The atmosphere sucks you in big time when you have the lights off and a great set of headphones on. It more or less about the environment doing its job than trying to scare you.

Yeah but there has to be the threat as much as the promise of it, and that's where atmosphere can't deliver so much. It's like BioShock to me. Now don't get me wrong here, I love BioShock, but the game wasn't scary. It had the unsettling atmosphere perfect and I love that about the game, but there was no threat that was truly terrifying, so it was mostly just an atmospheric action game with a fantastic story to boot, and it knew that and played its hand well at making that the best possible experience it could manage, given those factors. Whereas the main selling point for me was the threat in Dead Space, I felt useless and weak and scared. But in the second one, I could feel that waning and with it, my enthusiasm to keep playing.

  • Holy crap run-on sentence there. I would go back and edit it for your sake but B.net is sabotaging all my apostrophes into gibberish and I don't want to correct them all.

  • Good points. I did love that feeling in the first game. I did get a big glimmer of it while fighting the Hunter..
