It honestly felt like there were different lead writers on each of the trilogy and they each had an idea of where the series should've gone.
Mass Effect is what I'd chalk up as wasted potential overall.

Yes. The trilogy was not planned out properly. I think the original lead writer changed starting for the DLC Arrival, wasn't it?
