I started out with Gen II when I first got a Gameboy, and didn't play any of the first gen games for quite a while after that... then I got Leaf Green and Sapphire. Oh my god. So many hours in those two little cartridges. I had a couple of hundred hours on Leaf Green alone, and more on Sapphire. Gen III is the way to go. Back when everything was still new and different enough that it was a fresh start, but before there was seven squintillion pokemon across 5 regions. That and it blew me away with the difference between the GBA and GBC games. It was like a whole new game back then. "Woah, so many colours and details!"

  • What I find ironic is this: GBC: – Square cartridge – Limited capabilities GBA: – Half of GBC cartridge – Capabilities x500 DS: – Quarter of GBA cartridge – Capabilities beyond human understanding I must say, I am still at awe with the amazing colours of Gen III. It just seems, to me, so amazing for something so long ago. I believe Pokémon is an example of gameplay overriding graphics. I probably should've spent more time on Sapphire than I did back then. I feel as though I never felt the full experience of the game, even though I beat it over 6 times :)

  • While I definitely think that gameplay is more important than graphics, not only to Pokemon but to most other games, the GBC-GBA graphics improvement made it soooo much more interesting to me. From the GBA to the DS not so much, although the 3D things are cool.

  • Isn't the 3DS now more capable of playing in the third dimension (actual game, not the display)? You'd think that it being like the 4th DS released, its capabilities are extended.

  • I'm pretty sure the latest ones have sections where it goes 3D in the sense that it stops being a top-down scroller-type game, yeah.
