If you can't figure out Calculus, why would I trust you to keep me healthy?

That's so ridiculously stupid. Calculus, or math beyond the basics, is no measure of the ability of a practitioner in the field of medicine.

If you want to be a doctor, you should be willing to go to any length to help a patient. If you aren't willing to learn Calculus, then maybe you're willing to do anything to save a patient. Just suck it up and hit the books.

Obviously, he's willing to do the class, otherwise he wouldn't be taking it, he's just curious as to the usefulness of the class in the long run. To be quite frank, calculus doesn't weed people out, medical school does.

Look, if someone isn't going to pass Calculus, chances are, they're not getting through medical school. So it's a moot point. Let students take classes that will better help prepare them for the scientific rigor they will ultimately face at medical school.

The current system works fine? I beg to differ. The American educational system is extremely flawed at it's current point in time. So yes, there is a point to arguing over education, especially when there is such a hefty price tag attached to it.

This is starting to get old. I mean the weeding out system, the difficulty is fine. I'm not talking about k-12 here.

So if there was a doctor who knew more about medicine and the body then a doctor who knew more about calculus then the other guy. Who would you want to save your life?
