Marijuana was deemed illegal by the timber industry because hemp was poised to replace a number of industries. Among them being timber to be used for paper.
It's also a double standard to allow tobacco, filled with god only knows how many additives, and alcohol yet not marijuana.

The lumber industry did not "deem marijuana illegal" the lumber industry does not decide which substances are illegal or not.

You forgot to mention cotton. I also love how it was ILLEGAL for a farmer in Delaware NOT to grow hemp until 1888 because it was vital to this country.
