Some need it but I think it should be reduced across the board. Any welfare is a huge disincentive to go find a job or improve your situation. We should not have unemployment insurance for two years, it should be two months at most.

Two months?! Have you ever even tried to find a job? For some positions, the interview process alone can take that long. You're being absurd.

Edited by A Good Troll: 1/29/2013 7:11:59 PMI had no problems with the old system. What was the old timeframe, like 26 weeks or so for most states? I think the federal unemployment extensions should be allowed to expire. The whole extended to 99 weeks thing was beyond absurd, even in the middle of the recession.

Theres no reason for it to be any longer. There are so many problems with the system, and Im talking about how the Fed largely creates recessions. People do not save their money anymore and when things go bad I dont think its fair to redistribute other peoples money to them. People need to be responsible for themselves. We should help those who only really need it, period.
-
Yes, we should help those who really need it. By cutting unemployment to 8 weeks, you'll have more people who need welfare programs, and thus costing us more money.
-
No, not the point. Cutting benefits would actually help them because they would be forced to look for a job more vigorously, save their money, and create a demand for labor.
-
What, do you think unemployed people just sit on their ass everyday picking their nose while they rake in the cash from their unemployment checks? You've clearly never been unemployed. Hell, I'm not sure you've ever even had a job.

I just assumed that he (and Dredd for that matter) are spoiled 11 year olds.

Edited by A Good Troll: 1/29/2013 7:24:34 PMThe incentive is there. If I was laid off, I'd collect the maximum unemployment benefit available here in NC (about $500 a week). Could I easily find a job paying $10-15 an hour while I look for a similar career job? Sure could. But why would I work it? I'd be better off not working and staying at home and save gas on a commute. I'd make more money, as you said, sitting on my ass and waiting for the better job to come along. This is well documented as occuring, even today.
