I wonder how your mom will feel when you turn 18 and she no longer gets money from Social Security because you are an adult.
I'm assuming you collect social security surivor's benefits, widower's benefits only go to spouses age 60 or older, which I doubt applies to your family.

That's why I'm actively looking for a job.

If your mom is disabled, why doesn't she apply for social security disability in her own name if she is truly fully disabled? You'd probably qualify for some food stamp benefits at $1,600 a month income as well, along with Medicare for you and your mom. I mean, if you're going to milk the system, it is best to squeeze every last drop from the government tit.

I think she already tried. I can't really see why she would be turned down though. And it's not like I enjoy milking the system. I would much rather earn my own money.

Considering the number of people who get on welfare that don't deserve it, she should consider hiring an attorney. They rarely charge up-front, but instead take a portion of your benefit each month once they win you the benefits. That is what all the people who abuse the system do.

Edited by A Good Troll: 1/29/2013 7:08:07 PMNot at all. There are a bajillion cases of Social Security disability fraud. In a lot of those cases, you'll find that those people had legal representation who helped guide them through the maze of federal paperwork and how to say the right things to qualify. If she truly qualifies for disability, then she should consult an attorney. No bullshit.

I thought you were saying we were milking the system. -_- Which I guess we sorta are unfortunately, but I'll take what you said into consideration. Thanks.

You personally? No. I don't consider Social Security (even disability) entirely "welfare" because your mother/father did make payments into the system when they were healthy. I'm sure you've probably collected more than they ever paid in most likely, but there was at least some sort of contribution.
