Didact definitely had the best dialogue in the game. If only he had more screen time, maybe even a flashback. I think when you met Didact for the first time he should have given you a brief history of the events of the Forerunner-Human and Flood wars, like the Librarian did, expect his take on them. He would describe why he hates humanity, and it would give you some back story to explain his motives. He would talk about: -his children dying in the Human-Forerunner war -Humans bringing the Flood to Forerunner space (Didact blames them) -Humans refusing to share the cure for the Flood with the Forerunners -Explaining what the Timeless One said to him -Him being pissed about the Librarian betraying him and now aiding the humans -He finds out about the seeds the Librarian hid from him

  • I was wondering...I know the ancient humans had a cure for the Flood or were immune to infection, therefore why where they running from the Flood in the first place? Also if modern humanity was seeded from the genetic material of the ancient human race why aren't modern humans immune to the flood?

  • Yes, and if you're curious, the Cure they found wasn't exactly a cure. They reprogrammed there genes so that when they were infected by the Flood, the genes prooved to be a disadvantage, so Ancient Humanity sacraficed 1/3 of their population, to halt the Flood. And they Suceeded. Or so they thought... In reality, the Flood chose not to infect humanity as they had been deemed worthy of being tested for the mantle by the Precursors.

  • Huh I didn't know that. I suppose you get that in-depth knowledge from reading the books. From what I heard though wasn't the Flood suppose to be the test itself that the species had to overcome to be worthy of the mantle? Humanity was tested and you say they passed by reprogramming their genes so the Forerunner were tested next and I guess they failed...I'm still a little confused.

  • I'll do my best to explain, but for full context, be sure to pick up Cryptum, Proimordium, and soon Silentium. So the Flood entered the Milky Way Galaxy with the intent of wiping out the Forerunners, because they had been deemed unworthy of the Mantle when Precursors still existed in the Milky Way. Upon entering the Milky Way, the first contact they had was with the Human Empire. Because Humanity had been willing to try so hard and sacrafice so much, the Flood chose to wither away at Humanity's gene plan. At this time, Humanity began expanding into Forerunner territory, cleasning the Flood from there, and using their planets for resources. At the end of the Forerunner-Flood War, the Primordial aka, The Timeless One, told the Didact that the Humanity didn't become immune, they chose not to infect them as they would be judged in a 100 Millenia (100,000 Years) At the time the Halo Saga takes place, it is getting dangerously close to that point in time.

  • Thank you, that explains a lot. It also seems to foreshadow that the primary enemy we will face eventually in Halo 5 and 6 will be the Flood having come to judge whether humanity is worthy of the mantle.
