My friend's powder coating business mostly employees illegals.
So nope.

"nope" to what part? Are you saying they're taking your jobs? Again, if you read the post, I was saying that it's a problem with the employer hiring illegal immigrants, not the fault of the immigrants for taking the job.
-
They are the ones willing to work for $5 an hour.
-
Edited by Mad Max: 1/24/2013 7:14:49 PMWhat's your point? Are you not willing to work for $5/hr? If you're not, then it isn't the immigrant's fault that he got your job. Your friend is breaking the law by employing illegal immigrants, BTW.
-
So because they are willing to work for less than the legal amount its my fault? Pfff.
-
Edited by Mad Max: 1/24/2013 7:41:29 PMYes. Either you're willing to take the pay cut, or not. If not, you have no right to complain about the immigrant taking the job. They didn't take YOUR job - you refused to take the low-paying position. However, you can complain about the company hiring an illegal immigrant over a US citizen.
-
I'll complain about the company and the person who was willing to work for $5, thank you very much.
-
Why is the employee at fault? They needed a job, and they took it.
-
They give themselves an unfair advantage in the job market by working for less than the legal wage. If they demanded a legitimate wage we would actually start seeing college kids working in fast food again.
-
Edited by Mad Max: 1/24/2013 10:47:04 PM...which is a fault of the employer for offering them a position at that wage. It's not the fault of the immigrant. Want to compete with immigrants? Lower your standards. Accept smaller wages.
-
Its their fault if they accept it.
-
Then who will fill the job? You certainly wont, since you wont take $5/hr.
-
Dude... NO ONE should only be making $5 an hour!
-
But if someone is willing to make that wage, why should they say no to the position?
-
So you would just do away with minimum wage laws?
-
I'm on the fence. Getting rid of the minimum wage increases competition which drives wages. It's currently a burden to employers to have a minimum wage for basic jobs.
-
If we had no minimum wage I would have no problem with them working for $5 an hour, hell work for $3. But we do, and when they are willing to work for less than the legal wage it pushes out other groups (like students) that would normally have these low-skill jobs.
-
Dude, in Mexico, the minimum wage is the equivalent of $5 USD A DAY. Seriously, can you blame them for taking $5 USD for an hour?

Edited by brandorobot: 1/24/2013 6:51:54 PMIs it their fault for getting a job that was available? They aren't taking jobs, companies are giving them away. Which is the entire point of the OP.
