Let me just start of this thread by saying that this, in no way, is a plea for the reimplementation of titles.
The purpose of this thread is to create an open discussion about the concept of having a physical representation of excellence attached to ones account, and whether or not it is beneficial to the overall quality of the community and its content.
When I refer to a physical representation of excellence I am referring to something similar to the old title system, but not limited to that. It could be anything that is publicly visible on ones account that would set them apart from other accounts.
Bungie has always provided the community with some sort of ability to have something to work towards. Some examples include Halo 3 Recon (before it was given to everyone), Bungie favorites in Halo 3, Bungie all stars custom nameplates, custom titles on Bungie.net (e.g. Theme Master), colored title bars, titles & prefixes, as well as other things.
From what I can tell these things have always fueled creativity and greatness in the community. It has always given them something to strive for and to work towards.
In the new update of the site, short of achieving moderation or employee status, there does not seem to be any physical representations of excellence achievable. Now, I by no means saying that this is a bad thing, I am merely openly asking the community if they think it is or not.
Some might say that is is ridiculous to say that people need something physical to motivate them to be great, and that it would only breed elitism. While others might say that it is absolutely necessary, and that it is only human nature to do something better when there is a possible reward for doing so.
So what side are you on? Do you think that having some sort of physical representation of excellence is beneficial to the overall quality of the community, as well as members on an individual level? Why do you side the way that you do?
Edit: It seems that it is a possibility that in the future there will be such representations for certain members. Even so. Do you still believe that this is beneficial?

2 RepliesEdited by Spacebop: 1/11/2013 1:28:34 AMI think Deej said they'd be back in one way or another.
So, where’s my Title? It’s all about you, isn’t it? Please remember that this is a test. The public beta for Bungie.net is a chance for us to work out the kinks and collect some feedback on how we can make things better. That means we’re not finished rolling out all the bells and whistles. In time, we'll be celebrating and decorating the long-standing members of our community. Your legacy will be honored. For now, you are anonymous crash test dummies; so rev those engines and aim for the wall.
EDIT: Wait, what? Did I just reply to a group that I'm not in?

2 RepliesI think it'd be nice to have something worth achieving, whether it be to strengthen the worth of your account to you, to disinterest you from uncouth behavior, or just for fun. Although I do not think it's a necessity for this site.
