• The existence of mankind hinges on space travel. We will go extinct without it; it is in effect the most important thing we could ever accomplish.

  • Well, that was a hideously inaccurate statement.

  • Why do you have to take space threads so seriously? You always have to act like everything that you post is a fact maybe there isn't a point maybe there's nothing out there, that we haven't already seen.

  •
You always have to act like everything that you post is a fact
Please find an example of me saying that everything I say is definitive. That's ridiculous.
maybe there isn't a point maybe there's nothing out there, that we haven't already seen.
Colonization of other planets, as well as expanding our species' knowledge of physics/chemistry/astronomy and cosmology is important if humanity wants to continue existing, and the technology developed along the way will have many worldly applications (But maybe that's not "important" enough).

  •
Please find an example of me saying that everything I say is definitive. That's ridiculous.
The whole universe is expanding but is already infinite, thing. You refused to accept the possibility of another explanation.
(But maybe that's not "important" enough).
The key word in that sentence was "maybe."

  •
The whole universe is expanding but is already infinite, thing. You refused to accept the possibility of another explanation.
Aren't you that guy who immediately misperceived the concept as contradictory? I wasn't rejecting the possibility of a separate explanation, I was supporting a well-founded principle of cosmology.
The universe isn't expanding into anything; rather, the amount of space between galaxies is increasing everywhere. Think of raisins in a loaf of bread that is rising: the space between the raisins increases as the bread expands. Now imagine the loaf is infinite. The expansion of space is actually not very fast at local scales. Only across millions of light years does it become significant. When you walk a few blocks to the gas station you're moving faster than the local rate of expansion. The electromagnetic and gravitational forces are enough to counter the "flow" of the expansion at local scales.
• I said that the universe was infinite but everything in it was moving further and furtheraway from each other and you said the Universe is endless but was still expanding. My theory makes more sense and yours was full of contradicting statements.
The universe isn't expanding into anything; rather, the amount of space between galaxies is increasing everywhere. Think of raisins in a loaf of bread that is rising: the space between the raisins increases as the bread expands. Now imagine the loaf is infinite.
This was basically what I was saying. So you pretty much just proved me right. I can find the thread if you don't believe me.
My theory makes more sense and yours was full of contradicting statements.
According to most of what I've read, "new" space is formed within quantum "gaps." And in all honesty, I don't care if you think that your theory "makes more sense," because crazy things go on in the realms of cosmology when you start dealing with infinities. The universe is not confirmed to be infinite (Most evidence indicates that it is, however), but there's no contradiction here. And where does the new space come from? Hell if I know.
So you pretty much just proved me right.
No, I didn't.

My point has been proven once again. [EDIT] Wait... you mean like a balloon? If so then maybe it's not as contradicting as I thought.
