The video above demonstrates what the doctor has to do for people who use Q-tips in their ears. Q-tips are extremely bad... don't use them!
It's really easy to clean your ears more effectively, and you can read a book or play on your phone or something while you do it. Instead of a q-tip, tilt your head to the side and pour a half-teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide into one ear. Keep your head tilted for 15 minutes or so. You'll hear bubbling and popping -- that's normal.
After 15 minutes, hold a paper towel up to your ear and let the hydrogen peroxide drain out. You'll see small bits of wax come out too. If you still feel like that ear is clogged up, do it again (usually not necessary). Then just tilt your head to the other side and do the exact same thing with the other ear.
This is perfectly safe and easier than going to the doctor's office, where they do the exact same thing. Note, however, that wax is good for your ears, as it filters out dirt, bacteria, and other foreign particles, so don't clean your ears more than once or twice a week.

God damn that was disgusting. Are you serious though that you shouldn't use Q-Tips? I'm young so i'm sure my time of using Q-Tips hasn't been too detrimental yet, but i want to make sure you're completely serious about the peroxide procedure cause i am not a Chemist and have no idea what that might do.

Edited by FoMan123: 1/19/2013 12:12:22 AMI'm 100% serious. You don't have to take my word for it. Link above is a blog by a doctor about the dangers of q-tips inside your ear. Hydrogen peroxide is how doctors clean patients' ears. My sister is a registered P.A. and told me about the method I mentioned above :-)

I've done it to help break up impacted ear wax. It kind of worked. I think it was too much ear wax. You can visit a physician and they can clean out your ear canal with a sort of pressure-washer, meant for ears.

Welp, i think i might go do this right now, because i've never stuck a Q-tip in far enough to hit my eardrum, but i do dig around a bit inside my ear from time to time. And what's funny, is that in that blog Foman posted the doctor said that most will dig around a little and see that gold wax as a job well done. That was me exactly, i would think "Oh yeah look at all that, i'm a champ." Now i know that was bad.
