I know I'll get a lot of backlash for this but.. raise taxes on everyone. We need to cut our spending and increase our revenue, and our only revenue income is taxes. Yes, the rich should pay more income tax, and the poor should pay less income tax. Hell, the top tax bracket used to be taxed as high as 90%. Now it's what, 35%? No wonder we can't pay for anything.

 • We don't need to pay for anything. We need to pay for ourselves, infrastructure, and defense. That's it.

 •
We don't need to pay for anything.
Our debt and deficit says otherwise. Or do you mean that we shouldn't have social programs for medicare, medicaid, welfare, etc? Even without those, we still can't pay for defense or our infrastructure. Either way, shit needs to be paid for. Letting bogus tax cuts expire will help, but not alleviate, the problem.

 • Our debt only exists because we're paying for shit we can't afford. And quite frankly, most of that debt is due to ridiculous spending that doesn't need to even happen. Keep in mind that Medicare is paid for by the seniors while they're working, as is social security (or at least how social security was intended). But yeah, Medicaid is one of those programs that's low on my priority list. If everyone did their part, we wouldn't hardly need that type of a program. If we had a flat FIT of 15%, we could use 5% for debt reduction, 5% for defense, 4% for infrastructure, and 1% for social spending. If everyone paid that, no loopholes, the rich would be paying more -- in some cases -- the middle class would be paying less, and the poor would finally be paying.
