• A Mac WOULD be much better. WTF is an "Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button trackpad"? And I don't know anything about how much glare the screen has or its viewing angle is bad or how mushy or responsive the keyboard is or how good the speakers are... When you get a Mac, you don't have to worry about any of those problems. Plus, you can just use bootcamp to use all your Windows stuff. TL;DR: Get a Mac.

That trackpad is a standard trackpad with two buttons and the ability to read swipes/gestures as indicated by the "multi-touch" description. I don't want to buy a computer because I don't want to bother knowing if it's worth it; I want to buy a computer because I know for a fact that it's what I need and will be reliable. Macs don't fulfill those criteria for me because their selection is very small, meaning the product line is not adaptable to various needs, and the necessity to purchase another operating system just adds another $50-$100 to my purchase. Disregarding that, what Mac model would you recommend?

  • Actually, I've never paid for Windows 7. I just spam a 30 day trial over and over again. you can download a trial here, then you just use an elevated command prompt to extend the trial out to 120 days and reinstall it at the end of that. It's actually a pretty small hassle, it dodges the price of the OS, and it has the benefit of not needing to get anti-virus software because you can just wipe the Win7 partition of your storage. As for a model, I'd suggest a low-end Macbook Air 13". Yeah, it's not a lot of computer and not a lot of storage, but if you also have a desktop at home, the benefits of the Air's light weight and very small form-factor will work to your benefit. If you already have a decent desktop, you should focus on keeping the laptop you get as light and portable as possible because it's not going to be your primary workstation. But then, if it's really not going to fit your needs, you might be better off looking elsewhere. Good luck!

  • I want a good computer with good specs if I'm going to drop $900. By the way, I love Windows 8.
