I think you’ve just never played or beaten a souls/metroid. If you don’t like overused mechanics for puzzle solving and encounter transitions then it’s probably cuz ur dumb and entitled. They did an extremely good job with the story and I’m tired of the same damn story style we’ve been playing for nearly 11 years. This is a nice break and very welcomed.

I can't comment on how well/badly these systems mimic a Metroidvania, but honestly that's kind of not the point. Metroidvanias exist, and if people want to play them, they do; taking a non-Metroidvania and turning it into one is not a good idea (the same as taking a non-extraction shooter like Marathon and turning it into one was not a good idea). They could have added a mode with those puzzles (and I'm not against puzzles, personally; I would totally do this mode), but making them mandatory was really, really dumb. I did think the story was great as a lore piece though.

But that’s the thing, it’s not trying to BE Metroidvania, it’s the style. Yes stuff like matterspark was overused but the bones of the new system are very good. People who are coming here to hate are the same people who come to every DLC and cry about every little thing. This community as a whole is very hateful, spoiled, and entitled. I’ve been playing since D1 beta and the community has only gotten more toxic while the game only gets better. Not many people take your perspective and are reasonable about it. They just go “this is -blam!- another typical Bungie L” or “this game is dead I hate it I’m done playing it sucks, home marathon dies too” then turn around and put another 1k hours in. I’m at a point where we need to start aknowledging the good things that come out and be constructive about the bad.
