Matterspark sucks. It just does. I spent 15 minutes of a 30 minute mission trying to figure out a single puzzle room because Bungie decided it was a grand idea to put tiny little holes in architecture rather than something like, oh I don't know, searching for a terminal or shooting nodes to do stuff.
Aside from that, the campaign is rather boring. It's a good concept but the execution is lacking. The archon just doesn't feel like a compelling villain, the Nine just... they don't appeal to me as far as what they're supposed to be. The ideas are there but it feels like Bungie's writing teams don't understand how to bring it all together or even make a decent story out of it.
Back to Matterspark, it's an absolute atrocity. You could have made a subclass using dark matter. Maybe it could be similar to Prismatic where it takes different things from other subclasses but in its own ways. But no, it's solely there to be annoying. It deals -blam!- low damage, has abysmal range, the speed and jump height make it a liability in any parkour situation, the poor control responsiveness and slow sensitivity make it a nightmare to use, etc. It was a decent idea but the execution is absolutely -blam!-.

1 ReplyThis DLC would be so much better without Matterspark.

I liked matterspark at first, but learned that matterspark and cannabis don’t play well together. Got super motion sickness. My teammate pulled us through while I ended up kneeling to the porcelain gods. Funny, but not fun.

5 RepliesWould you rather be protecting ghost for 15 minutes? Bungie literally, and I mean, LITERALLY said they were making missions more puzzle based. I understand that matter spark is a little difficult to use yes, but complaining about Bungie adding THINKING to missions is just hilarious. Also duh Archon isn’t as good as a villain as say the Witness, but that’s just because this is the ground work DLC. It obviously isn’t going to compare to the end of the light and dark saga.

Fed up with it too

3 RepliesLmao I never swore, I used words that are specifically meant to not be "curse words." I used typical words that denote a negative experience. Bungie is so desperate to keep themselves from experiencing any real criticism that they "-blam!-" out any words that would possibly hurt their egos. Not a good look, Bungie. Not a good look.

The final mission with Matterspark is a NIGHTMARE. You fall off a rock, dead, start over. 💀 Mattermorph is fun, and so are the puzzles that include it and the relocator, but matterspark isn’t nearly as cool as advertised in the trailers. I was expecting it to be like a semi super ability where you’d deal decent amounts of damage, could infinitely be the ball, jump super high and move super fast, and honestly it doesn’t feel that much faster than sprinting. I bet you amplified sprinting is faster than matterspark rolling.

Personally, I liked the archon. He felt like a mad priest charlatan and I like that character type. Kind of wish we got a little more of him.

2 RepliesI don't even think I want to run the campaign on my alt characters. It's such a slog.
-
It made me almost vomit and I legit did just the first mission.
-
It’s used too much and too often. Overuse something and people are likely to get sick of it.

something like, oh I don't know, searching for a terminal or shooting nodes to do stuff.
The same boring objectives that do nothing but pretend to have you doing something?
Matterspark sucks. It just does.
I don't like this thing, and it's just objectively bad because I can't figure something out 🤓

2 RepliesAfter completing the "free" part of the campaign, I am so very glad I didn't spend a dime on this mess.
