It's so awkward and quirky to use there's so much downtime and delay playing the game because you're spending so much time trying to go through all these puzzles and everything that's just time filler.
I play a first person shooter looter because I want to shoot things and I want to get loot spinning 30 minutes just trying to fumble around the map to see like hey where's this tiny little hole that's hidden somewhere that I have to go into just is not fun at all and the damage output of the ball is so pitiful that you're sitting there forever trying to kill something on legendary mode.
I can honestly say in all my years of playing destiny since the very launch of destiny one it never came into my mind that I wished I could play this game more like Metroid a side scroller game.
Then with the power squash I feel so weak and pathetic and I'm forced and I can't even go and enjoy some of the end game content that I've been accustomed to playing all this time because what I was finally geared up enough to do things like grandmasters and dungeons I now don't have enough light to properly do and it's going to take forever to earn it at the same time I'm going to be forced to be doing this stupid matter spark the whole time.
And now I'm not even looking forward to the raid because God knows you're going to be putting the matter spark and matter more garbage into that and raids are hard enough to do as it is yet alone to have to think of going into one and trying to stumble around with jumping and trying to do the little dashes it works for a 2D side scroller it's not something that functionally works well any first person 3D environment.

Gods I'm fed up with this matter spark. I've been trying to get back to the reactor room in the charge mission for an hour. Change to matter spark, time jump over chasm wrong - wipe; get to the stupid hole, run out of time - wipe. Repeat, repeat repeat. This thing is sapping all of the fun out of what is generally a pretty decent shooter and I don't have time for a mechanic that a better player than me can only just manage in the time allowed. For god's sake, I don't mind the odd puzzle but 45 seconds limit on this is ridiculous. I accept I'm far from the best player but I'd like at least a chance of getting to the end of it without this level of frustration! I'm turning this off now and there is a fair chance I might never turn it back on again if I can't figure out how to do this in a reasonable manner.

Also, why is there a timer for these abilities? It's completely unnecessary. When it's activated, leave it on until WE turn it off. Don't throw a timer on top of your already unwieldy mechanics. Making us juggle multiple incongruent mechanics is annoying as well. Having to drop arc charges to grab/use mattermorph is so counterintuitive. Just let us move stuff with mattermorph and keep it up until we hit it again.

4 RepliesFor the love of the Traveler, I sincerely HOPE this light-ball is NOT a mechanic in the new raid. I've been telling myself to keep pushing... if I can just finish this campaign, I'll never have to do the ball again.. if I finish this ball-thing by Saturday, I can play the raid & never come back to Kepler again...

10 RepliesTurn into a ball find a hole go through hole return to human for 2 secs to interact, rinse and repeat for 8 hours lol.

This game has succeeded in spite of itself and the stupid decisions made over the years. (For example, it has the worst UI for inventory management in the history of video games. I'm looking at you, Vault.) Now you've taken the words away from weapon traits and somehow think that I'm going to memorize what the little icon looks like for several dozen weapon traits. Mankind invented words instead of just using pictures for things for a reason. The "Matterspark" nonsense makes me not even want to play the campaign because it's so stupid. You've been rightfully mocked for years with the obsession in putting balls in holes (a phrase you cannot even type in-game, btw. Great job censoring the words used to actually explain your mechanics!), and now you think the best thing to do is just turn the player into a ball? I hope Marathon tanks this company.

OGpa from D1 year 1. When the game opened with D1 soundtrack I was excited, then after the first go at the story on legend, I deleted game back to game library. Essentially dungeon puzzle mechanics with little or no explanation as to how it works? No thank you, very much ...

6 RepliesEdited by Ulzana: 7/16/2025 6:34:32 AMI played the free mission and it would have been fun if not for the spark ball BS. Really dumb addition to a looter shooter when you can't shoot or loot when in ball form. It's not challenging, it's childish & annoying. It's hard not to believe that this is intentional sabotage. It's universally agreed upon that if there's one thing Bungie does well, it's the FPS shooting & movement. Why pull players out of that?
-
How did this get past brainstorming? It is just dumb. Who thought this is a good idea and forced the devs to code this? It will not bring new players into the game. I saw it and said, not a purchase. Also giving bonus to season gears is the Diablo 4 epic fail.

1 ReplyEdited by ForeverLaxx: 7/16/2025 3:44:40 PMI especially loved how the camera would go underneath the floor constantly when traversing the narrow spaces. Sure is fun trying to navigate a maze of pipes when you can't see anything but the underside of a platform. EDIT: And don't get me started on that "super jump" nonsense. I died more times to the game just deciding I didn't hit the buttons "at the same time enough" and throwing me into the abyss with a normal jump that I started finding routes that ignored the mechanic entirely. Half-baked gimmick would be a compliment compared to what we got.

I'm just trying to figure out how they came to the conclusion that this would be well recieved - it's like they're completely out of touch with their playerbase. I mean, they try a new mechanic in basically every expansion and I've never heard anyone say or post "oh this is fun and cool, I love standing still on stuff or clicking things instead of killing aliens". On the contrary, people - myself included - complain every time they add excessive non-shooting mechanics outside of raids. Up until now they've managed to stay just north of tolerable and widespread outcry though. This time, not so much, it's just painfully boring and disruptive.

My nephew asked me to crack on with the Legendary Campaign for him while he's at School. After getting to step 23 out of 31 I have had enough of this mechanic. It exists purely to annoy you. It serves zero purpose. It's used as a method of travelling between places in pipes that you don't really need or, and this drove me mad, when you are yet again in a room with the health gated Boss, with constantly spawning ads, you have to go find the pipe and meander about so you can get to the room for the McGuffin that you need to lower the bosses shield. Rinse and Repeat. Same with the platform mechanic. It's just used to get to places you should be able to get to normally. I loved the health gated Shank Boss where I had to go get the matter spark so I could go get the Orb so I could use the platforms to get up high to dunk the orb so I could lower his shield. Yeah, he can finish that himself.

11 RepliesI loved everybit of the story so far.. The campaign etc.. two things I really dislike about it.. the Matterspark ball and the portal. The spark literally is just a progress, puzzle, transport that likely allows them to clear cache or load screens while we move through that tunnel. It adds nothing and takes away from the game. The Portal.. I get it.. they wanted change.. but, after 10 years.. why are you changing how we see and do things? Its not very intuitive at all.

1 ReplyI don’t get the point of matter spark, it adds nothing good, it feels like a pointless gimmick, I don’t want it, get back to what Destiny used to be, a great story and plenty of -blam!- to shoot , if I want platforms I’d play Mario
-
2 RepliesMovement is awkward! - Check Jump is pitiful! - Check Finding your way around, terrible! - Check Damage not at all what they showed the trailers! - Check (just like always, they show things you will never be able to replicate) Some holes you need go into just bounce you to the other side requiring too much time to go super slow just to get the stupid spark to enter. Overall really bad!

During prolong runs/battles in solo Legendary, I’m getting sick like seasickness car sick. It’s the Spark zipping around so fast like a Simulator Roller coaster or fighter jet sim ride. I get sick in them since I was a child. I was on 7 of 7 step 19 in the Charge when it got to me. 🤮🤮🤮🤮 I turned the game off. Probably lost that Check Point but I doubt I’ll be able to continue. Dang

Edited by StridingShadow: 7/16/2025 2:00:16 PMThis mechanic Made me thoroughly nauseous but thankfully the game crashed 6 hours ago and now crashes at character selection. Hoping to avoid that 'wisp' mechanic. That should just be confined to a raid.If it's an essential part of the seasoni'll skip the season pass for the first time ever.
-
It’s an unneeded, un asked for, unwelcome Time Filler Mechanic, a distraction to the lack of shooting gameplay.
-
All it needs is a brake. I'm fed up running over the edge of a platform only to wipe after 20 minutes on a boss fight. Infuriating.
-
1 ReplyI have to take Dramamine to play this dlc. If I don’t, after a while I feel like I’m gonna hurl. 🤢🤮
-
The matterspark for me is one of those mechanics where, yah it's cool the first time. The second time, alright I get it. Third time, a bit much. Every time after at, can you plz just stop. Especially when you have to juggle doing Boss DPS while getting baked by enemies above you, while a minotaur keeps throwing Gravity Wells at you so you can't move, while the other enemies around you have immune shields that can only be broken with the Matterspark. 🫠
-
3 RepliesYeah I don’t like the matterspark thing. It makes me dizzy. I really hope this stupidity is strictly on the story
-
Played the first mission and yes the spark was the only thing that annoyed me. And now that i know that the hole campaign and especially the boss Fights are tight to it, I won't buy the dlc. Not a big fan of puzzel mechanics in destiny in general. But the story is really interesting 🤔
-
6 RepliesHaving to use that silly thing while jumping during the final boss battle was horrible because if you didnt time the jumps perfectly, you would have to wipe. Im hoping they also fix the non stop crashing on consoles and they need to stop blaming others for their mistakes
-
The grappling hook as a mechanic to explore new areas was far more interesting than the matterspark. Matterspark is just a very clunky thing that slows everything down.
-
It's easily the worst mechanic they have ever put in this game. I honestly dont know why they thought this would be enjoyable. It would have been way better if matterspark was just a feature on the new destination for secrets/puzzels for the title. But to have it tied directly into the story was a mistake. Im just trying to engage with the story and I'm constantly being ripped out of it by trying to figure out with hole i have to roll through to find a battery i have to charge

Edited by Meevime: 7/16/2025 7:30:01 AMI do not like the matter spark either. Payed the first free mission and the MS is very irritating. Moreover Kepler is a caves world, with holes and tubes for MS to pass through. Definitely not my like. Glad did not pre-order. Will play occasionally however despite the old refurbished content, but times less than before.
