If we suffered a major loss, it would ruin the power fantasy. As well as nesscitate a gritier and more serious writing tone.

I don’t think we need a devastating loss, but an ambiguous ending would be a really good way to kick off the new saga.
-
The campaign writers want Guardians of the Galaxy and or Star Trek Lower Decks. We're getting a dead serious story or a suffering a major loss.
If we suffered a major loss, it would ruin the power fantasy. As well as nesscitate a gritier and more serious writing tone.
It would not ruin the power fantasy lmao. It’s the opposite, the power fantasy is ruined by having us be the strongest thing in the universe and entire species of enemy races combined couldn’t stop us. Power fantasy is best when you’re the underdog or you’re up against an opposing force of equal strength. Light fighting against darkness. That way, the -blam!- we do in game would actually be impressive/more impactful. Our gaurdian is so powerful that all 3 hive gods combined couldn’t stop us at the end of heresy. Where’s the fun it that? It gets boring when nothing in the entire -blam!- universe can put up a fight against you anymore.

That's not how the campaign writers feel. They want a feeling very different than what a lot of players want. Guardians of the Galaxy tone/style, with the episodic structure of old-school Star Trek. Is what the campaign writers want. The players want a darker epic fantasy. The Halo Trilogy or DS9's Dominion War.

And real story telling. Not word salad fluff
-
As long as the current campaign writers retain their positions this will not happen. The Lore Writers understood the assignment. The biggest failure of late is there being no sociopolitical friction between The Last City and Neomuna.
-
You don't remember cappybara corner?
-
If there was real tension,we the Guardian would have had to talked out of destroying Neomuna out of spite.
-
Neomunda is already destroyed and its people in purgatory. The pods aren't a simple 2 way street, they uploaded themselves out of desperation, not knowing if there would even be a way back. There's really nothing left but for the hidden to scavenge it for information/technology and move on if they haven't already done so. Nimbus is the only real representative, and he's on a very fixed lifespan and poses no threat.
-
There was no significant conflict between the Last City and Neomuna. No tension between Guardians and Cloud striders. Also there should have been more than just to Cloudstriders.
-
City wasn't around when neomunda was sending out scouts. Instead, it was the warlords and iron lords they ran into. The fear would be justified. In terms of cloudstriders. It's said during the campaign that we are different as a point of contention because, unlike guardians, cloudstiders give up their future to save their people while we get eternal life. Not too dissimilar from the red wars theme. But yes, there was tension. I would understand you don't know this because the story sucked, but it was there
-
I know the story that we were told. I just think that the story was of poor quality. The cloud striders should have been a small army instead of just two,and they should have been Artifical Strand users instead of Space Marine sized cyborgs.
-
They used to be an army instead of 2, but having an army of supersoldiers with free will didn't work out for them the same way the dark age of humanity sucked for us. In terms of strand, they did have a philosophical connection to it (at least nimbus did through childrens stories), but their ability to eventually use it was snuffed out before the necessity to push back the vex that consistently gave them a run for their money. That, and i can't imagine them being eager to utilize mayas research that would have given them powers if they so willed it.

I know the lore. I disagree with how the writers wrote Neomuna.
