It’s in no way better than D2. It just ended when it should have and on a very high note.

You just gave an example of how it can be seen to be the better game. It’s all opinions and preferences really. My preference is D1, mainly because there was less content churn (which, imo, has negatively affected the quality of the content) and Crucible (my favourite activity) was a bigger piece of the pie.
