IMHO: if/when D3 becomes more than a possibility, here’s what I would do…just on the PvP side of things… 1. End Crossover as a given…have 3x separate pathways, ie, Console / PC…and a F2P taster option for time limited games, eg, 7x games to try, then buy D3 or bounce. No repeats allowed…it’d be a 1x deal per IP address or other unique identifier. 2. Create a credible, well-managed, tiered ladder system that features separate Divisions, eg, Div 1 for ninjas…down to Div 5 for old 0.3% tortoise’s like me. Within those Divisions would be a well-defined League Table based on a player’s unique skill rating, which would also feature a country / region weighting…and, of course - connectivity, too! 3. Progress would begin with a PvP 101 Tutorial and Basic Shooting / Movement / Combat / Weapons Skills Tests…and once done, all players enter a series of testing sessions against other new players to determine their abilities…once done, each player receives a unique PvP ID number, and can then enter the regular play lists. 4. Further progress depends on playing the various game modes, eg, Comp - for solo players, and Comp for 3- and 6-man teams. Individual progress is based purely on results and games played, which will automatically determine promotion / relegation, accordingly. Dormant players are removed from the active Comp lists every other week…and must start their PvP Comp journey from the beginning…to help keep things from getting bogged down. 5. Anti-Cheat oversight will be ruthless. Anyone caught will be flagged and tagged, based on a 3-strike policy, with appropriate suspension penalties applied. 3x confirmed strikes = a permanent suspension from the active Comp arena. 6. PvP Game Modes outside of the active Comp lobby will cater to a more relaxed and fun range of game modes in which credits can be earned to complete PvP bounties / quests / triumphs. 7. Weapons / armour / loot / gear / ships / skimmers / ghosts - are unique to the PvP pathway. 8. Wall of Fame - located in the Tower, is where the top, active Comp players / teams names are indelibly inscribed…gained through the Trials weekly / monthly competitions. Last Man / Team Standing could be one such event! Prizes - mostly unique shaders / emblems and armour, plus the WoF inscription, should encourage some serious competition from the top players, and create some very watchable streaming opportunities. 9. Dedicated Regional Servers are a given! 10. A dedicated, experienced PvP Team at BHQ will be another given, to create, build, maintain and manage PvP. 11-20. Reserved…tba as/when possible. I’m sure there’s lots more, though for now, that’s the general gist of it! Be sure to add your own thoughts / suggestions, accordingly, if/as desired. That is all. Carry On. 🫡

  •
Im confuse you want pc and console in the same lobby?
See no. 1 3 separate pathways… Pathway #1 = Console players only, ie, PS5 / X box (latest generation) Pathway #2 = PC players only Pathway #3 = F2P ‘taster’ mode b4 a player decides to commit to a full game purchase Therefore, absolutely no ‘crossplay’ between any lobby. Cheers! 🫡

  • Agree with everything but separating solo and grouped players in comp

  •
Agree with everything but separating solo and grouped players in comp
Not separated…just separate modes, ie, one mode for individual players, and one mode for 3- and 6-man team matches. The main difference between the two would be 2x k/d numbers, or some other variation, which would mean, my Solo k/d is D357 (Div III #57 - out of, say, 300 players in that Division)… Whereas my Team k/d would reflect my team’s standing in the League Table, where our efforts re W / L / D results, would be something like - C3200 (Comp 3s / 200th team in the lists…a number unique to that team only. If the team splits, all numbers are instantly reset to zero. Or something along those lines! Cheers! 🫡

I still don't think they should be separate modes, because the game doesn't have enough players to split them up like that so queues would be awful, it would also make it impossible to play as a duo, and if they were separate modes it would make it where you would be a different rank in each mode which would really suck. Also, it's a team game; your goal should be to learn to play well as a team and ultimately make a team with other players, but a solo queue mode incentivises playing alone, so players won't try to be good teammates outside the basics because they won't have the goal finding teammates. Lastly, I'm just sick of games discouraging the social part of gaming. Also, comp should never be 6v6, it should be 3v3 or 4v4, preferably 4v4.

None of my suggestions will work without a massive upgrade to the Destiny architecture / game engine / coding / C Suite / etc. Destiny is not a PvP hardcore shooter. Players who seek that vibe play other games. F2P and Crossplay (all platforms) caused nothing but problems for console players of Destiny…hence my suggestion to split pathways…and see how that plays out…?! In D1 - we played with a regular bunch of mates, raided non-stop…never mind the ‘kwtdok’ nonsense. We just worked it out as we played…new buds joined all the time…and soon became part of the gang! It was a very simple and social and fun vibe! Until the hammer blow that was the Sunset debacle… You sound like a serious PvP player…maybe that level of seriousness could be better served in a more serious and properly competitive shooter game…where the hardcore shooters go?! That is all. Ease Springs! 🙄

  • Destiny isn't a hardcore shooter, but comp is literally supposed to be the hardcore mode for people who like that style of gameplay, if you make it casual it defeats the whole purpose of the mode and then it ends up in the situation its in now where people only play it to get ranked rewards and not because they actually want to play the mode. I don't think it's bad for one single balanced mode to be for hardcore players when every single other mode is just different versions of mayhem.

That was way back. Trials withered and died a number of times…mostly because Casual players refused to get farmed by stomp crews…and the paltry rewards for those that continued the grind - for a new weapon or piece of gear. Trials went through many evolutions before BHQ finally listened to what we’d been shouting from the rooftops since way back. Finding the right degree of balance is not easy, and somewhere along the line, certain groups of players won’t be satisfied…so, they landed on the current version of Trials that we now have. Comp was totally mismanaged…the ridiculous points system…and the weekly freebies for enduring 3x matches. Nobody liked it. SUS players…booster services…paid carries…sneaky cheaters…blatant cheaters…P2P / lag / latency / spaghetti coding / antiquated system architecture / etc… Until the a/m are sorted, D2 is on a downward spiral. Marathon is targeting serious PvP players, like you…but that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast, as BHQ / Sony are having some major issues with Marathon, and internally, too, no doubt. So, here we are… As previously mentioned, what you seek must be found outside of the Destiny PvP universe. I have no idea as to what and where…maybe some other more-informed Guardians can enlighten you. That is all. Ease Springs! 🫡

  • Trials was only considered the comp mode because there wasn't a comp mode in d1, it was meant to be a casual serious mode like iron banner, and its been that way the entirety of d2. comp was good in the past, but its downfall came from very strong weapons being tied to getting a certain rank and most players weren't good enough to get it so instead of making the weapons easier to get or just simply giving them away bungie made the comp mode laughably easy and now we're here. "Marathon is targeting serious PvP players" lol I really don't think what I seek MUST be found outside of destiny, because what I seek has been in destiny in the past and there's no reason it shouldn't come back.

  • Marathon is targeting the most casual of casual pvp players. I am on the bungie forums. I am quite literally conveying my needs and wishes directly to sony/bungie.

  • It’s going to be hard to do a D3 if the company is dissolved. Once marathon fails spectacularly Sony is either going to fire all the incompetent bums working at bungie or they’re going to dissolve the company. Either way all those useless bums will be gone. And good riddance.

  • Sony's likely to take over at this point because the Bungie execs are about to cut and run. They've had a foot out the door for years now, Marathon was just a distraction as they took the money from the buyout and dipped. One billion doesn't just disappear, y'know.
