One of the reasons I stuck with Destiny and don’t play games like Diablo is because it didn’t have any kind of seasonal reset. Now we’re getting something similar to what Diablo has.
One of the major criticisms about the seasonal model was that temporary activities was a bad system. Now we’re getting temporary destination gimmick abilities instead of actual new permanent additions to subs like we saw for the last 3+ years.
Instead of balancing and expanding upon the meaningful bad luck protection that was crafting they just burned it to the ground.
They just keep piling on reasons for me to pass. I was already on the fence because of the abandonment of crafting. They pushed me over the edge with the rest of this stuff.

Nerfing Crafting was a good idea. Putting Crafting in the game was a mistake.
-
Crafting was one of the best things they ever added. It was also completely optional, complaining about things that are optional is very weird.

No, crafting was one of the worst ideas they've ever had. Because crafting removed the impetus to Loot, in a Looter-Shooter. Bungie didn't add trading or an auction system to destiny for the same reason.
-
It was optional. Why are you complaining about something that was optional??
-
Its impact isn't "optional."
-
What impact?
-
Isn't it obvious? Once you can custom make whatever weapon you want. You have less reason to play activities.
-
Says who?
-
Anyone with logic.
-
So not you then.
-
You have so little understanding.
-
Says the person complaining about things that are completely optional.
-
I pity you, who understands nothing.
-
Lol, if I understand nothing you understand even less. Crafting is optional.
-
Nothing that effects other people is optional.
-
Lol, you need to make an actual point, saying it affects others means nothing. Crafting is optional.
-
why did Bungie choose not to add trading and auctions to Destiny. Despite trading and auctions being common in the mmo game space? Because they hurt the loot chase.
-
Then don't craft, because it's OPTIONAL.

Edited by Nerd_Herd: 6/11/2025 4:43:37 PMCrafting was good for the users, because it reduced grind and saved vault space. Crafting is bad for Bungie because reduced grind is bad for their "engagement" numbers. Don't confuse the process of getting gear for the reward of tbe actual gear itself.
-
It was good for returning players. Not for existing. Because for returning it was a catchup mechanic like Tyson green stated. Removing crafting put the grind back into destiny because as it has been proven from the day crafting existed, bungie catered to an audience that didn't want to play a looter shooter. You can argue grinding red borders is the loot itself. Until you just did a weekly login and just stopped playing till Tuesday. Then pick up your free red border, stopped playing. The tier system is way better, because it incentivises actually playing the videogame you're paying for.
-
I really do not understand why so many players are defending a blatant skinner box and conflating the *reward* of getting loot with the *work* of grinding. The reward for playing Destiny 2 is the *loot*, not the *grind*. Now, we can argue what is the appropriate amount of grind, but not what is clearly the reward for your "work".
-
The problem is that it's a perpetual cycle of "Can't please -blam!-" Honestly I don't target farm so if I don't get exactly bothered when I don't get what I want. My vault is at 660 with adequate enough weapons. I usually just farm materials. The whole reason people want to grind is to have a good excuse to play your 40$ investment. The reward is a good weapon, however it shouldn't be insta handed. Once I figured out I could just...log in and out to get my desired red borders, I just played less. Not because I want to stupidly grind 20 hours a week for a god roll but because there was no point in playing more than the 2 hours I had each Tuesday

Edited by Nerd_Herd: 6/13/2025 3:48:47 AMAnd your last paragraph is exactly my point. We are playing absurd hours of this game because of RNG dictated by a game company, not because there is some higher purpose or intrinsic worth to the hours you as a player are spending. I.e., your grind is worthless except for the fact it makes bungie happy as people will keep playing. It is something rampant in the games industry, yet so many people are defending it as it was fun. Grind is never fun, the gameplay might be, the rewards mught be, but not the *grind* itself.

Playing ridiculous hours is kind of your own choice. I work 32 hours a week and I still have time. I don't mind grinding for gear, because I paid 40$ for a game I play. You don't have to like it...but thats all personal preference
