I don't wish failure on anyone, karma is a real thing. I do feel sorry for the honesty hard working folks that have no say in the situation. Destiny 3 announcement would definitely buy time.

  • Honestly D2 isn't beyond saving. A D3 might be easier to market big changes, but a D2 would be easier to implement changes and get reactions before sinking a new title. As such as adjusting monetization, expanding subclasses, new weapon types, maybe reworking the exotic system.

  • I disagree that changes would be easier to implement in D2 then a potential D3. Keep in mind that D2 is going to be 2 generations old when next-gen consoles come out in 2027 if rumors are correct. This game was never designed to be a true live service game intended to be able to run indefinitely. They changed this along the way and it has cost them in the long run by removing multiple expansions and the base game. Building something from the ground up is better than implementing massive changes in old designs. Also it would be a better way to introduce new players to Destiny. I'm currently re-doing the ''new'' player experience and it still is horrible. Announcing a Destiny 3 would create much needed hype and they would set up The Fate Saga as the introduction to a Destiny 3 potentially set outside of our solar system. Keep in mind that the whole light vs dark theme is potentially never ending. The true main antgonist is The Winnower/The Darkness a paracausaul force that technically can't be defeated. Similar to Diablo's Eternal conflict Destiny is set up in a way it could go on forever if needed. But even Blizzard comes out with new Diablo games from time to time.

  • Given the position that Bungie is in, even if next gen consoles come out in 2027 a D3 most likely won't be ready by then (without help from the outside). Also it would be best to for them to try out changes in an already completed sandbox before creating a new game with potentially untested changes that may or may not be poorly received like the last 2 destiny launches. Bungie needs to look before leaping right now. Find out what works best, improve what can be improved, and then put it all together seamlessly.

  • A Destiny 3 definitely won't be ready by then but that doesn't mean development can't already start. Making changes in the current sandbox will allow them to test what works and what doesn't work. Development on Destiny 2 was already on-going when Destiny was released. News about a sequel dropped two months after release. You don't start development on a new game after you're satisfied with the things that work and don't work. You develop along the way and test in the sandbox you current have. If Bungie did this then they could have a Destiny 3 out when 2030 rolls around and newer more powerful hardware.

  • Doubt that on the D3 thing. It's basically just going to be D2 all over again, probably worse.
