Edit: I overestimated the forums again, so I'll spell it out for anyone else who happens across this post & struggles with reading comprehension: D2 was #1 in sales on Steam in the US & #2 globally when Bungie made their next expansion available for preorder. There's no "downfall" for Bungie any time soon because Destiny is still raking in cash.

There's a guy above who actually wrote that a certain manager stole 2.3b from the sale, layed off people & let the game die, & spent it all on cars 😂 deserves suing tbh 😆

The bar's below ground level at this point lol

Edited by jhermannITJ: 5/26/2025 2:06:00 AMLet's explain what the figure could be... "Stole" wouldn't be correct either. If you buy points and vestments back at value, that makes your points worth more. How much more? Hard to extrapolate unless I knew exactly how much he bought back, and the total value gained. Let's say 1/3rd of what was earmarked. So... 300 million, and he got it for 33.3% of its value. That means +600 million. Meaning he brought back 900 for 300. I wouldn't be surprised if he bought everyones' vestments back... save a few. And the reason I think that, is because he fired Marty rather than paying him. For context I consider O'Donnel as one of the founders... the logo came from him, he owned the trademark... his media company, before Bungie ever existed. I don't think that's unreasonable. He wouldn't just get that share, but his points would be worth more... 10 million at least. If he has 50 million in points, a 20% increase isn't unreasonable. "Stole" still isn't accurate. And here we're also faced with the reality, that this does benefit Sony. And it also might answer, why they let that happen... but these types of tactics have consequences. We're seeing the risk of ruin in real-time. Sony needs to step in before they lose big. My thoughts. 😇👍💠 Spoilers: They are. Edit: It might seem easy to blame Sony, but we must understand Bungie executives wanted to be independent. Sony has no ethical responsibility to step in prior... especially if it benefits them. Life isn't fair... and business is ruthless. Here's an analogy. I'm a hot dog vendor and entrepreneur that owns a farmers' market. Another food vendor renting a stall... is mismanaging their business... might get shut down. I own the stall, but they're independent. What's my course of action? It depends. I first need to ask.... how insulated is their failure? Is it affecting the farmers' market negatively as a whole? No? Or is that impact nominal? Furthermore, I have a waiting list for new vendors wanting to rent that stall... and the first ten aren't food vendors. Or I can take over that stall. If it benefits me, I let them fail. That's what I think Sony did with PP & Bungie. 2nd edit: What I hope Sony realizes is that the creative devs... that vision and talent, made this company. Made Bungie go from under 400 million to 3.4 bln in 7-8 years after leaving MS. Andy Wilson got rid of everyone at Bioware. And look at the game they just launched... playing to social trends and the short game financials. The inauthenticity of signaling virtue for a bottom line. It failed. I'm not saying Andy didn't make money... But I think the profit potential of Bioware was not realized in acquisition... People used to see Bioware like CDPR and Larian. Look how much money that can be worth? For Bungie... for Sony... That's my plea to Sony. Destiny is the WoW of FPS... invest. This ip and the creators who made it have unbelievable profit potential still unrealized.

Edited by xbroggiex: 5/25/2025 2:50:44 PMafaik Edge of Fate has roughly 250k pre-orders based on emblems. iirc this is less than TFS and Lightfall, though depends on how many of those 250k pre-orders refunded so it might be less players that still have the expansion pre-ordered. Still a lot of people pre-ordering but still on a downward trend. Considering how much money it takes to run Bungie I expect layoffs at least for the Marathon team, especially with Marathon seeming to be a complete flop.
-
And you believe everything you read on the internet, dontcha? So, when are the aliens going to stop hiding? Nobody -blam!- cares if Bungie goes -blam!--up bankrupt... or list all time record breaking profits. They CARE about the servers being up, 24/7 365 so they can PLAY what they've already PAID for... Talk about "struggles with comprehension", reading or otherwise.

I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt & assume you're trolling lol

It's a free download that has dropped 19 places on the list. That's harsh reality. With Marathon basically cancelled at this point, Bungie has very little left on the horizon to generate net income. Buy plenty of silver Mr Wrench.

Also, bungie seems to be generating more income than what you or anyone else on these forums are making. Let's not forget how many people on these forums buy dlcs for the game to then come here and complain and either quit or never touch the very content they paid for. Bungie seems to be doing great with their free money generators. Their out here making content either so good or bad or even just middle of the ground that people will actively pay just to never even play it.

Edited the post for ya 😘

Hahahaha. Nothin man

It's got a 96% review score on steam & over 100K reviews, so I wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

Edited by D2 Is Bad: 5/24/2025 10:39:32 PMOh wow, a free to play game has players. I wonder how many of them bought the new dlc

Try reading the words on the site I shared.

They'll need nothing less to fill the hole in their pockets that will be a disastrous Marathon launch. Surely you are not under an illusion that this money is being reinvested into Destiny, right? 😂 That's daddy Sony's cash.
-
You keep dreaming, bud. Maybe your fantasies will come true in 2026 lol
-
Fantasy? You think Marathon flopping is fantasy? Tell me you suck Bungie off without saying it. 😂

Edited by D2 Is Bad: 5/26/2025 7:20:50 AMYoure either slow or blissfully ignorant to current events. Either way, womp womp

I'll take that as a no lol

Exactly for a game that covered over 500 million in losses after the failures of Concord & Lego: Horizon. Surely you are not so naive to think shareholders would let such a valuable asset to be discarded?
