Ascension is really good.
Short cooldown jolt, great for utility and add clear.
15% dr and makes enemies less accurate. Gifted conviction pushes this even further.
Speed buff, mobility and movement tech given by it are also handy.
More recently they’ve added utility with other aspects and let it trigger your dodge ability.
I’m not really sure how you would see it as anything other than very good.

The reload and handling buff it gives from applying free on demand amplified is worth a slot for me in pvp as well. I know it isn't the best but it feels just that good

Edited by Volcanic-Pass: 5/24/2025 5:02:10 PMniche utility, not raw power. Arcstrider is subclass that already struggles in endgame due to having no range, and a single, one-note build (which is much worse after One Two Punch was nerfed for the dozenth time). Improving Amplified and buffing Ascension is nice, but if they're not changing "Dodge and Melee" lameplay loop, nothing new they introduce will be good.

It’s applicable in all pve content. Range isn’t an issue in the endgame unless you’re bad. Also, only one aspect of the ability requires you to be near an enemy.

slight dr and "less accurate" enemies is the definition of niche. Even the Jolt and Dodge synergy aspects are trivial, and the base jump and slide boost don't really matter if your subclass would allow you to obliterate enemies so you don't have to run in circles around them (Stormcaller and Striker).

Having an easy permanent source of dr at all times is extremely good. On prismatic, you can easily have 3-4 dr sources on top of armor dr. Add gifted conviction on top of that and hunter is the tankiest class while also being the most mobile. The high uptime on area of effect damage and jolt allows you to clear enemies better than any of the arc titan or warlock aspects. The only arc aspect that you could argue being as good or better than ascension is storms keep and that’s a different use case. I’m sorry, but if you’re unable to see the value in one of the best abilities in the game, I’m not sure you know what you’re doing at all. Ascension is very good.
