I didn’t play the Alpha but from what I understand not only what you find during a run can be lost if you are taken out but what you bring with you from your vault. Too many bad runs and you can lose everything from your vault.
If your vault gets wiped out, you can purchase weapons from vendors, mediocre weapons.
What eventually happens is one of those “the rich get richer” scenarios.
Having some PvE options for opportunity to obtain gear could be a better option but to do that would delay the game for more than a year.
Otherwise if you end up with a depleted vault, the other only option would be to stealth your way around the map, loot, and hope you can extract before the other players with superior gear get to you.
There’s already so many games out there that do the “extraction shooter” very well. Unless you’re bringing something truly unique I don’t see the logic to investing so much time and money into developing one.

The unwalked path is PvE only extraction shooter where you're in no risk of facing other players with superior gears so it fits their view with "making safe space for players"
