Now that we know marathon is dead on arrival…
…Can we get the investments needed in destiny such as fully dedicated servers, upgraded net code, an actual dedicated PVP team? Absolutely zero reason that an extraction shooter mode couldn’t have been built into destiny 2.

All the bungie leaders should run a marathon the day it was supposed to be released. And then work on improving d2 and making d3

4 RepliesIf I was Bungie, I would start immediately (if they haven't already) on Destiny 3 and take everything from Marathon and merge it into the next Destiny and call it Destiny 3: Marathon. It's obvious from all the reviews Marathon is going to basically flop and flop hard. Bungie can save face here if they can just admit this was a big mistake to develop Marathon and those people/assets should have been used for Destiny 3 development. Then Bungie should say that all this Marathon development will not go to waste and we're going to pull the Marathon 'idea/concept' into Destiny as a new PvE/PvP permanent aspect of Destiny from the engine, to effects, to models, etc. Either port Destiny assets to Marathon engine or vice versa (not sure what Marathon is entirely built on.) Take the Marathon storyline with it's colony/world/maps and elements and turn it into the next Destination outside of Sol/outskirts of the solar system or through a warp portal or something like we had for Pale Heart. The current Destiny story continues with this added into it. All the current Destiny 2 stuff and next pacs continue until D3 launch. Then Bungie does the same thing they did from D1 to D2 and sorta cleans out the destinations/weapons/etc and we start on the next adventures with whatever they keep from D2. So again, this is Destiny. Destiny universe, Destiny story, just with 'Marathon' being the next part of the Destiny story. Take the PvP Aspects of Marathon and create a new play mode, maps, etc. with the current play modes. Take the weapons and models and obviously turn into the next xpac/weapons/armor sets. IMO this is the ONLY way Bungie is going to survive this absolute fiasco that is occurring with Marathon. Thoughts?

I’m hoping it falls off and bungo moves back to destiny adding content the player base wants and re-peakening D2. (Easier said than done I know)

10 RepliesWhen Marathon fails then Bungie is going to fold, you know that right? There will be loads of lay offs and Sony will absorb the talent into their studios and get rid of the rest. There will likely be less of a team then there already is for Destiny and it will be bled dry until the playerbase doesn’t sustain eververse profits.

2 RepliesDedicated servers aren't feasible it would require them to fully rebuild the game. And even than with how destiny has done in the last 2 Dlcs Sony would never give the money or devs for it as it wouldn't be able to recover costs.

Bungie ruined the pvp-experience of millions players with outdated peer-to-peer and no dedicated servers. The most players quit because of this, already in D1.

1 ReplyNobody knows what Marathon is going to look like at launch. We’ve not seen all of the game yet and there’s still 4 months to go (+ possible delay). They could potentially scrap Marathon at any point and double down on Destiny 2, but it seems unlikely to me, given the reports that D2 profits have been decreasing over time. I think if Marathon fails, Bungie will either need to drastically reduce the size of their studio, or gain fresh investment for “the next Destiny” (D3 or some new IP that is similar).

1 ReplyI fear Destiny 2 is circling the drain. Next expansion looks like it has you rolling around like sonic followed by a star wars cash grab. It's turning into Fortnite rather than continuing the awesome sci fi shooter it started out as. Sadly that new mobile game looks better than Bungies next expansion.

If marathon is dead, it will not free up resources or money, it will be a massive financial hit for bungie that will likely result in further layoffs and negative impacts. Dedicated servers are an expensive ordeal at this stage, requiring a full rework of the netcode foundations that run d2 and one that is unlikely to yeild any increase in income, only the outlay of the rework and sustained costs of the servers. D2 has a dedicated pvp "strike" team. Extraction mode wouldnt work in D2. People who think 600+ vault space is too low are not going to want to play any mode where they can lose gear. Even less so without a massive upscale in anticheat.

The only thing holding them back is that the person in charge of designing and putting that stuff together hasn't published it yet for the development team to plagiarize it. Don't worry, as soon as the person puts the code up an ex-employee will deliver it.
