I remember myself and seeing many other players, here in the forums and elsewhere, show our displeasure about Marathon when it was first teased/announced. It was all amid a terrible Destiny 2 state of game. You guys seemingly abandoned your baby, that - outside of the Halo franchise - made you who you are today. With this, you also abandoned an incredibly loyal and strong fanbase/community, who has always stuck up for you and your game. For what? To create a new game in a genre that you've never worked with before - a genre that is in some ways dying? To try and create a new player base from the ground up? It doesn't take much thought to realize that 95% of Destiny players are not going to enjoy or even try Marathon. It is an entirely different genre, with the only similarity being the gunplay. But clearly Destiny's gunplay hasn't even saved it over the past couple years. Destiny has been creeping on the edge of death for years at this point, unable to retain any significant amount of players even weeks after a content drop.
It's even more of a joke that you're developing what is largely a pvp game - all while Destiny's pvp has been an absolute unbalanced, cheater-ran hellscape for the better half of the last decade. I have no idea what possessed you all to make a pvp game, but it has been a long time since Halo, and you have clearly lost your pvp touch.
I would say you should've put as much effort into reviving Destiny as you did developing Marathon, but as it turns out - you weren't putting any hard work into Marathon. You're thieves, stealing the product of years worth of hard work and refinement of an individual's livelihood. Not to mention the underwhelming gameplay we have seen of Marathon. It begs the question: What in the world have you guys been doing during the time that Destiny has been on the ground dying?
Just know, while there certainly are a number of individuals in the Destiny community that still want to see you and Marathon succeed, that number has dwindled enormously - and you have no one to blame but yourselves.
Rule #1: Don't abandon your community

We don’t act like a community.

1 ReplyMarathon, and Bungie as a whole, deserves fully what is coming. They deserve to fail. This studio deserves to close. It’s an empty hollowed out shell of its former self, morally bankrupt and corrupted by corporate greed. Good riddance to this absolute dumpster fire.

I miss when I had a life

3 RepliesI saw a video the other day from a non-Destiny, extraction FPS shooter player. What he said was interesting. He thinks Marathon needs some work... But, in comparison to Arc Raiders he said a couple of things: Doesn't like 3rd person. Arc Raiders currently has more depth, but that can be attributed to each games' development. But ultimately, he chose Marathon for one main reason over Arc Raiders... it doesn't have pay-to-win microtransactions. He's still very optimistic about Marathon even despite recent controversy. Basically... wants more game, more AI, tougher AI... more forced player engagement with map objectives and events. Marathon might be done, but there's a game there.

I'd play it if it were free.

2 RepliesThe cinematic trailer is imo the best piece of art I will ever see, that being said the game is unlikely to do well and it makes me sad because I really like the world. Extraction shooter is just such a bad idea, also the game itself doesn’t look very inspired. Sadly at this point I just hope destiny survives the massive losses I expect marathon to bring

1 ReplyYou missed the answer of not caring in the first place.

2 RepliesCareful, the mods are gonna come for you now.

3 RepliesI see absolutely no issues with a game studio dipping their toe in uncharted territory they have never attempted before. Most studios do attempt at branching off some have success some don't. From what I see with Marathon it's not for me.

2 RepliesI played a ton of the alpha and had a very good time. I hope the game succeeds. With that said - it won’t if they still launch in 4 months, there is way too much to fix. Letting destiny rot was one of the worst choices possible and sucks that all those resources went into failed ventures and marathon when they could have put SOME of that back in to d2. Upper management fumbled the bag.

I've never had any interest in Marathon from the first word about it. Show have dropped into negative interest, but not come around to wanting it now. It's been funny from a casual distance though!
