Bring back over-levelling

I think people should be allowed to over level again as a reward for the grind. I know it was introduced to make sure content was always at a set level, but I think people are over that now. I don't think it would be like before because of the changes that were made. There's content that is currently at 2050, and I've put a fair amount of time in and am still at 2038. There are going to be people above 2050, obviously, but I think a far larger contingent than ever has not made it to that.

  • I’m at 2035 can’t go any further. All my gear is at 2020. Previously when I was getting pinnacle gear it would be a couple of levels higher than my current equipment. Now regular drops including legendary and exotic engrams drop at 2010, and pinnacle gear drops and exotic weekly activities drop at 2020. Feels like a waste of time.

    • Over levelling by 20 for everything bar GMs was a nice touch. It wasn’t too much but allowed there to be a feeling of power. Power is pretty irrelevant now - it is only there to provide access to higher level activities.

        Like in First Descendent I can leave my max health Descendent infront of a low level boss, afk for 3 hours, come back and they might have chipped her health by a fraction of a centimeter Her super(4th) also does 2 million+ damage per second That power is the reward for the time invested playing missions over and over again, to get mods with the right stats, spending untold resources,resetting to max out slots, alot of grind, but I see progress and reward for my playtime In Destiny 2, a 2040 Guardian with 100 Resiliance and Recovery, Can still be 2 tapped by a EDZ shank In most other games, we are progressing our character, in D2 we just make numbers go up

        • It should honestly be either Remove gear score entirely and have set difficulties. or Remove the power lock on activities. Currently progression of power doesn't matter as we are just returning to the same point in a loop so its completely arbitrary except for just wasting your time doing the same activities you've done a million times just to return to the same point. This however would be the same problem even with the ability to overlevel. Set difficulties would be a better alternative since it would be related to skill rather than "did you complete 5 trillion bounties to hit +50 artifact power?" or "did you run all the old legacy content you've ran a million times for the 1 powerful drop?". If Bungie gave players the opportunity to overlevel again players would get insanely burnt out from all the bounty grinding for XP to get artifact bonus power that'll reset every 6 months. They should just do away with the power system entirely imo.

          Over leveling is definitely needed...why play if the work gets you nowhere?...only thing I can think would be bad is that the try-hards would burn out and stop playing over things being "to easy"...but that's like 5 people so we good...just needs to be a rolling power scale so the new stuff still needs to be worked twords as older stuff gets easier as time goes with options to have power caps for greater rewards...seems like an ez fix but I know its not...game dev is not magic....

          Removing it was one of the more dumb design ideas they implemented that had no real benefit for anyone.

        • We already annihilate everything in every mode of the game that isn't grandmaster or master content. We shouldn't be overleveled for the hardest content.

              • For basic activities like Strikes and Patrols, 10 over would make sense. Pale Heart and Gambit should be on power. Everything else should be as is.

              • Frankly power level has always been goofy. The issue is that content should not be inherently easier for someone who has a higher power level than one who does not - obviously this is referencing strictly the arbitrary number in question and not raw experience or skill. The core basic idea of a light deficit is what I think of primarily when balancing activities. The different levels of strike difficulty are probably the best way to illustrate this - for example grandmasters have a recommended power of 2040(?) but enemies scale up to 2060. This is where i find artifact power to be particularly asinine because, while it would take a decent amount of time, theoretically you can get to 2040 no problem. So is the GM deficit supposed to be 20? It's borderline trivial at that deficit. This is where I actually think an old method of strike difficulty would come in kind of handy here - the Seven of Cards or whatever that thing was way back in vanilla d2 that allowed you to change the deficit and modifiers. If you meet or overlevel above an activity's recommendation, suppose a GM, maybe you could input a combatant difficulty different to that set, with rewards scaling as you go up - though to be clear I think this should be a linear scale, not exponential or something like that. Additionally, the ability to fine tune rewards would probably not be a bad idea either. We mostly have this for weapons, but if I could forfeit something like golf balls or ascendant energy for more nightfall ciphers that wouldn't be a half bad reason to get up there either. Idk, just spitballing I guess.

                • they are reworking power and the bonus power system since it looks like we are getting the old leak of the +100 so maybe they will bring back the overleveling for some base level activity
