Ya know, a while ago I heard a guy on here say "People keep forgetting that Edge of Fate is D3".
I didn't fully agree at first, and I am not sure i fully agree now, but in a way it kinda is.
I am not sure what, if anything is happening under the hood (like engine upgrades etc) but the more I think about it, that guy may have been on to something.
We're basically getting d3 in d2's engine. Take that how you will. Just an interesting take.
Edit: spelling... also couldn't fully remember where to put the period on a quote of someone at the end ... think i did it right.

The problem I see as a player that comes from destiny is that D1 and D2 are 2 completely different games. And most of the community needs that sensation to get excited for a “D3” experience. Things that, with all the improvements we had over the years can’t be fulfilled with the current game. Maybe I’m wrong, who knows. But again, I’ve been playing since day 1 and at this point the game feels the same, that is why I stopped.

I don't disagree that a new titled entry, with a new or improved engine would be fantastic.
