Hobbies are becoming luxuries.
Jacking up prices of games ensures that fewer people will be willing to preorder them.
Right now you have people giving up their streaming subscriptions to check out blue-rays at libraries (or sailing the high seas, argh matey)
It costs too much to go to the movies so fewer people go, and those who do go less often.
Eating out is more expensive, same deal.
Too expensive to go to Disneyland/Disney World so families opt to go to smaller regional amusement parks or just go camping.
Our culture is shifting. Intelligent entrepreneurs will see that and find opportunity in it, perhaps providing more affordable options in the near future.
Think about it… a Louis Vuitton purse used to be a status symbol. Now anyone seen with one looks like a fool.

Get ready for more studios to start closing down now because if they weren't reaching they return investment goal at first they sure as heck not going to now, they still haven't realized that the more these games price start increasing the more picky and demanding we get by reaching the point gaming becoming too much of a luxury then a hobby for entertainment I'M pretty sure this price increase is the breaking point for alot of players due to affordability and a heavy amount of players are still on old gen consoles slowly coming to the current gen says it all at this rate just try to buy a decent to great gaming PC because this is getting wild because pretty soon we be paying $100 plus for a basic game and $115 just to play online.

Arts and crafts stores have had a decline in customer traffic. I have not gone to a movie theater for 10 years due to the high cost. There are plenty of other things to watch at home. On the weekend I infrequently bought a fast food breakfast and Starbucks coffee. They have become so expensive that I stopped buying them. I would never pay for a streaming subscription. I was surprised when CNN decided to begin a subscription service. There is no way I would pay for news.

Paying for the news, with how shitty it is these days? That's absolutely hilarious! 🤣

I agree with your assessment, once the industry realized how much profit they can squeeze out of hobbies they just kept tightening their grip. The problem is that everything else is getting squeezed as well.
