Hello there,
A name reset to default like that means it was detected or reported, reviewed by Bungie and reset to"Guardian####", that indicates that some part of the name broke the Code of Conduct or the Bungie Name Policy, was filtered, and cannot/should not be used again. When that happens, you get the new name cross play message in-game as notice of the name change.
You can try a different name if you have a name change available. If the system is not allowing more changes, there is no way to override it.

Appreciate the response, but I can't imagine that "tuinybadger" broke any conduct or name policy rules. I've genuinely read them through and can't find anything offensive, and can't find anything that even brushes up against the rules as outlined in the bungie name policy. I think something erroneous happened here- it's not outrage that I had to change from something like "bonerboner420" or whatever, it's a name that's gone unflagged for years, is totally benign, and frankly if there is an issue with it here I'd like to know so that I can be suitably educated about using it elsewhere.

I am not privy to what portion of the name policy or code of conduct your name was running afoul of. All I can advise is that once the name has been moderated by Bungie, it is no longer available for use. If you have a name change available still, you can change it to a different name.

So that's why I'm posting; how do I discover what happened here? Not looking to make you personally solve this, but someone has to know what got picked up in the algorithm and got me un-named. Or the machine screwed up (much more likely) and this should be undone. Again, the answer exists and I don't think it's too much to ask for some resolution.

Bungie does not discuss their reasonings beyond the links to the name policy and code of conduct. anything further would just be speculation.

Hey I think the cross save refresh bug thing that happened back in August is happening again.... Several people thus far have their names "checked" again when LOGGING INTO MARATHON. So if a current name contains banned vocabulary, phrase or acronym it gets removed automatically without review.....
-
I have not seen anything from support indicating it. Also last bug was super wide spread. I did send a message along to verify though

Aw thx.

Thanks for your time; I get not being able to give an answer to everyone who'-blam!- the filter an essay on why, but it's outrageous for me that there's no pathway to restitution or even a proper note on WHY a name was flagged as part of the automated process. Really disappointing.

To be fair normally it's NOT an automatic process.
