First of all, SBMM and Lobby Balancing are separate things. SBMM determines the Lobby. Lobby Balancing determines the teams. So far as I know, Bungie uses a combination of SBMM and RBMM (Rank-Based) in Competitive. I find it hard to believe that "0.1" k/d players are capable of making it to Ascendant, even with the small SBMM component that is present. Ultimately, you control this situation. Bungie gives you the option of playing with a dedicated team. You don't have to play with random players - you can pick your teammates.

  • Ultimately its up to bungie to not have bugs and systems in place to punish good players (they're main audience) in both pvp and pve by forcing them to carry bad players that only play for a handful of hours and refuse to play unless they're hand is held. You don't get better, then you don't get the better loot and achievements. Simple as that.

  • Not trying to be toxic to ya, but re-read the post bro. It WAS sbmm. As in past tense. Plus the 0.1 was on the extreme side, but I have had .4s on my team. Plus ik that sbmm and lobby balance are different but both try to accomplish the same goal. A game where the outcome of the match is pre-determined to be a 50/50 win chance. That is not how purely rank based matches are supposed to be.

  • But rank itself isn't an indicator of skill, since you can be carried to that rank. Ironically, what you're really asking for is pure SBMM so you can avoid this. But streamers convinced you guys to hate it.

  • If you don't know how the matchmaking works then I wouldn't assume anything man. Im in no way, shape, or form asking for the dumpster fire that is sbmm. Sbmm would allow bots that dont deserve high ranks, or the rewards that come with them to obtain them, while the really good players struggle to obtain what they should already have but are forced to take longer. If you read the post again you'll notice I said we need pure, untouched rank based matchmaking. Thats because when you do, the better players will rocket forward away from the bad players and get their rewards and feel appreciated for the skill they've obtained and then will play the better players like themselves for the greatest loot. And were ok with that, just NOT ALL THE TIME. Rank based naturally becomes a "sbmm like" environment after you get toward the highest ranks which is what the original post is about. If im that high in the ranks, I deserve to have players of around the same "skill" on my team. Not some 1.2 that got carried up to ascendant. This also helps the bots of the game cause once the better players can't match you anymore and are super high in the ranks, youll have a natural, steady progression of skill as people get better or get worse and fall into where their rank is on the scale. Basically, bad players can slowly but steadily get better and obtain what they want through learning to get better and commentment. And the good players are appreciated with the loot they deserve and their time respected, and have a true place to show true skill. Not artificially modified skill like sbmm, fbmm, and lobby balancing.
