Dunno, I like doing harder stuff solo. I just got done doing a grasp of Avarice by myself, and it was tremendous fun. Looking for my next dungeon to tackle by myself. I only wish raid didn’t require multiple people for the mechanics. I know I could solo vault or Crota, and VoG was one of my favorite raids in destiny.

  • The biggest thing in Grasp is not rushing it. Especially on the bosses, do t go for maximum damage. Bosses have no enrage mechanics or phase limits, so just focus on survivability. I went the route of using an exotic sword on the first boss. And yes, it worked, but I was back and forth on health, hoping and praying for Banshee’s Wail to regen some health. For the final boss encounter, I opted for a solid scout rifle for cross map ads, a void glance for run and gun ad clearing, and Truth for my heavy. Yes, I could have gone with a sword to maximize damage and get it in 2-4 damage phases, but using Truth made it very easy to stay alive and dump a lot of damage. Took 5 phases, but they were very safe and easy. My overall recommendation is: have a good glaive and a reliable longer range primary. Almost none of the ads are anything to worry about, so going in with the glaive makes short work of them. I ran a void hunter with radiant dance machines to have multiple invis dodges, which can be huge to take the heat off of you. And I’d suggest either Truth or Jellyhorn for heavy. The outside area, all glaive all the time. You can kill the initial wizard, and then demolish the loot cave spawn. If using a properly spaced void hunter, each glaive kill starts regen and gives you a chunk of health, so death is t really an option. On the approach to the Rusted Gangplank, just watch you jumps, kill the shrieked right away in the first combat room, then long gun or glaive out the ads. Move to the puzzle section. Make sure you know where the death traps are, and move through the first puzzle area quickly and safely. When you get to the round room with the 4 side platforms and the pillar in the middle, watch your jumps. Avoid the little in between platforms on the side as much as possible, as they can collapse and cause a sudden death. Hit the switches, shoot the dudes, get the scorch cannon and open the door reasonably quickly: nothing super challenging there. There is a hidden chest on the side of the side pillar / girder near the 04 door, hit that for a chance at an Eyasluna. Move on, avoid the barrel trap, navigate the room with the 6 port doors on the sides. Be careful to avoid death traps while hitting switches. When you open the first side door, another shrieked spawns in the middle of the room: hit it with a rocket right away so it can’t harass you. Kill the spawn on the entrance side door, open the opposite one, kill the spawn, and open the door on the right side of that room. The Fallen Shield encounter isn’t hard, but pay attention to what you’re doing. Don’t forget to dump all your rebuffs before moving to kill the shielded servitor, or you might have an unexpected sudden death. But again, focus more on staying alive than going fast, and you’re fine. For the sparrow bomb encounter, just watch video of it several times to make sure you know the route. If your sparrow is damaged, hop off and immediately resummon it. Once you diffuse the zone D mine, loom at the ‘eyes’ of the skull cave you are in: one of them has the second hidden chest in it. For the final boss: there are 4 mini-phases: elimination, collection, dumping, and damage. Use your super and a scorch cannon to kill the sniper shank, right away. Use the rest of the cannon and glaive shots to kill the invis vandal. Get a new cannon. Start on the left side of the arena, and use the cannon to activate the power supply. Collect the left side rebuffs, then go for the ones in the center by the entrance. Drop the cannon and swap to your glaive if spawn is an issue, then pick it back up. If you do this perfectly, you’ll have 20 stacks of the debuff. Head to the right side, hit that supply, repeat. Go back to left, etc.: never waste time with the center power supply, always left to right to left, I fill you have 60 stacks. Regen health if you have time, then go to the crystal to dump the stacks. You goal here is to stay opposite of the boss and take as little damage as possible. When his shield drops, head to the platform on left that is even with the power supply. Dump as many rockets on the boss as possible while staying alive, until he shields again. From there, it’s literally just repeating that until you win. As long as nothing weird happens, you are killing the mini-bosses first, and you make good choices, it’s actually not a hard fight at all. Again, survival first, speed last. Don’t go for glory, go for victory. If you ever want a dry run, hit me up.

  • Yes, but I bet you got top quality gear from playing harder content with others, that now allows you to do the harder content solo. I’m a solo player and I’m finding it hard to raise my level as there are only a few sources of pinnacle gear that I can do solo each week, and that gear is only dropping two levels (I think) higher than what I already have and quite often I get the same armor type. So it’s really a grind, meanwhile I’m deleting the abundance of trash I’m also getting. I understand what type of game this is and how it is made for social play, not solo players. It’s frustrating though. I’ve just come back from a 4-5 year break.

lol, guess again. I almost never game with anyone, even when part of an active clan. All my gear? Solo. All my legacy comp weapons? Solo. All my god rolls? Yep, ground out all by myself. I don’t crutch on having backup, I go it alone whenever I can. Even in D1, I was always running Challenge of Elders and Nightfall by myself, grudgingly helping a few people out here and there. Not only is it totally possible to solo a lot of the team activities, there are those out there that actually really enjoy taking on 3 or 6 person activities by themselves and coming out on top. Not for everyone, no, and skill is a hugely limiting factor in a lot of things. But those of us that can and enjoy the challenge? Yeah, no better way to play.
