Across the internet, we still probably have just as many people if not more talking about the game.
It's just a bit less unified. We're in a very interconnected age, where there are online communities everywhere
And this one has kind of made itself known as an unwelcoming place.
The move away from unified forums combined with the growing toxicity of the bungie forums specifically have made this place what it is.

That simply isn't true. Metrics have spiralling downward for 4 years. YouTube views, twitch views, Google impressions, player counts, bungie reveal stream numbers. The twitch directory is basically dead, even for trials.
-
That compounded with outside of CoC bungie hasn't really made any attempts to foster a unified community like a lot of live service games try to do.
-
Part of the problem also ends up being that, inevitably, when any significantly large unified destiny community forms, the usual suspects show up to try their hardest to make it a toxic cesspool. Thus it's kind of become easier for most destiny fans to stick to their corner of the internet.
-
I've been told this community is becoming a meme and not a good one, if there is such a thing.
-
Watched a few YouTubers yesterday covering the reveal & they all said their chats were full of toxicity from destiny players & they'd have to rethink about covering the game if this is what the bungie community is like. Part of the blame lands on bungie themselves for helping culture the community we have now.
-
People being a-holes is Bungie's fault, huh? How's that work?

Edited by JerBear: 4/13/2025 7:26:39 PMThere was a video about it years ago, forget the finite details but it happened with halo to a lesser extent. They turn the community against itself by things they say. Communities are cultured like dough. It went quite deep about how they use it to gain free marketing & search impressions across social media. An example was removing content. So they break really bad news but give a reason why, so suddenly you see arguments all over social media, people saying bungie are bad, the other half using bungies given reason as a tool to beat down the complainers. Impressions feed into metrics used to get investors & future budget, destiny always had a massive online appearance despite flagging in-game numbers, thanks to this manipulation. Remember king gothalion, guy who used to top the twitch directory for like 5 years, watched a stream of his for final shape as hed not streamed destiny in a year or so, he actually stopped streaming it because his chat went from super nice to toxic as hell, the destiny crowd descended in him. He's played pretty much every game going that's flagship & he said the destiny community is the worst thing in gaming & it was brought on & raised by bungie's ideas of getting social media traction. I watched the marathon reveal a few hours ago with reforge gaming, formerly say no to rage, another guy who topped the directory alongside gothalion. He says the exact same thing how he'd not missed the destiny community, as his chat after years away was full of vile racism & toxicity. Just take a look at this forum lol, for every query or issue you'll get the same 7-8 guys saying get good, skill issue, this game isn't for you etc & these guys have been around a decade, some 15+ years. Sure all games have bad eggs, but the % in destiny is way higher than others, that's not accidental. Go to csgo & cod forums, you'll see issues & queries raised just like here, but there's no one replying defending the Devs & beating down on people asking for help or advice. Go watch any non destiny youtuber cover destiny videos & the comments are a cesspool of hate, which they never were previously or after they stopped covering it.

The Destiny community has been a joke for the last 5 years
-
Which raises the question, is that the fault of the game or the players? I mean, so many people say that Destiny 2 was at its peak during the Witch Queen and that released 3 years ago, suggesting the community sucked regardless of the game.
-
The bad eggs were always there, but hidden amongst a huge population. The population has moved on, at least public wise, leaving the toxic section front & centre.,
-
As someone who is extremely dissatisfied with this game I find it very funny being more annoyed with the players that also dislike this game but express their displeasure in very, lets say 'uneducated' way, compared to the people who slurp up all the slop Bungo squeeze out.
-
Every gaming community sucks. But most are made worse with bad choices by the studios that create them.
-
Deep Rock and Helldivers have extremely welcoming communities

I don't buy that in the least I think certain types of people gravitate around certain types of games The level of toxicity can be changed by the actions of the devs, but I think thats far less of a factor than just the people generally being toxic. People being terrible doesnt just magically happen because a dev makes bad decisions, nor do bad devs attract bad people. Toxic idiots still want entertainment, they still want to enjoy the games they play. The idea that developer actions directly inform toxicity to any major degree just feels very disconnected from reality to me.

I have to disagree, proper a-holes are always a-holes; Destiny just game them an excuse, a platform (this forum), and anonymity.
-
That’s your prerogative

Ummm, thank you?
