You should get full loss protection if a team mate leaves before half way, and lose max like 50 points past that.
You should also get full loss protection if you match a 3 stack solo queue.
"It already works like that"
It doesn't

"It already works like that" It doesn't
It's meant to, but they already said it wasn't correctly working in the 8.2.5.2 patch notes. For all solos vs trio there's this bit:
There is still a known issue where a team of all solos matched against trios may not receive loss protection. While these matches are rare (less than one percent of games for solos), we have modified our matchmaking parameters to further reduce the likelihood of these matches occurring while we continue to investigate.[
For Solo + Duo vs Trio, they mentioned they know about it on the help forums.

Thats great but no idea where they pulled that 1% stat lol. I played like 60 solo games from 10 to 15k and matched probably 5 stacks

Given the lack of mentioning conditions like time period or minimum games played by the solo player, there is a high chance they'll be using fairly loose conditions on the stat and are simply counting all comp games that had a solo player in them then checking the number that had a 3 stack. The earlier in a season its checked the most likely situation is that solo vs trio games are going to be less likely to appear as the player pool will be larger with non-comp players coming in to do their placement games for the weapon or to be ale to focus comp weapons at Shaxx that week. This will somewhat smudge the numbers as a solo playing their 7 games but not matching any trios holds the same weight as a solo playing 200 but faced trios 20 times unless we're told if there are any further conditions besides 'less than one percent of games for solos'
