  • I played pvp before stasis and strand came into the mix and pvp was fun man , i was not the brightest lamp in the room but i had fun . I don't care who has the most kills i just wanna have some fun . Gaming is not my job and it never will be . If you want me to be a god then play some pve with me , i can carry you through anything pve related . Anyway , after they added stasis and strand in pvp , it was done for me so i quit playing pvp . I still play pve but pvp is done for me for years .. Meanwhile pvp players have never quit , they dealt with all the strand and stasis nonsense . I remember stasis hunter dive was so OP so people abused it untill it got nerfed or warlock stasis turrets but that was nothing compared to strand ... the threadlings , the spiderman hunters , the unlimited titan melee charges , just everything about strand should be pve only but no they added it into pvp so people abused it aswell and don't get me started on void titan .. Just no gunplay , only hide behind the overshield barricade and use bubbles to capture points ... But now i see people complain about invis cause bungie nerfed everything that was OP and getting abused in pvp so basicly pvp players can finally play pvp without anyone having an unfair advantage and instead of doing that they cry about a hunter ability that has been in the game since day 1 ... 😂 They did not cry about it when everyone was abusing strand or stasis or triple void titans in trials .. And you wonder why people don't wanna improve in pvp ..

  • Some players will never be able to improve just due to map knowledge and game knowledge. People have been playing this game for around 10 years and will always stomp a player that is newer to the game and that exactly what trials promotes. Honestly if u are a newer player just stick to pve because pvp is just a waste of time and energy. They have done nothing to improve it and honestly they don't truly care about it. Just get ur pve fix from destiny then go play a fun pvp game.

  • That’s just not true, I’ve seen people pick this game up and get good.

  • There's no improvement after a certain age, outside of learning maps etc & some people can't even work out how to use mods nevermind lines of sight. We have an aging playerbase as bungie gave as a reason for constant sales losses over the last 5 years, so older players are now a decade older, we have people from 6 to 80 playing, once you hit 45 it's all downhill, most that age or older also are on big tvs, input lag, stock controllers, playing after a drink or a day's work, they play an hour a night or 3 hours on the weekend & they're matching people 30+ years younger than them, on 0hz monitors, with xims, cronus, paddles, who play 10 hours a day This is THE playerbase that saying get better isn't always possible, especially given a good amount of PvP players have been playing a decade. It's better saying look you're not very good, just don't play trials, rather than get good, in most cases, bungie are at fault here too btw, making trials more accessible why? To give poor players who don't even like PvP, adept PvP guns they'll never really use, herding them into a playlist to be cannon fodder for recovery services , streamers & good players. The only conceivable reason is to keep the twitch directory numbers from dropping further because most people playing & getting destroyed would be playing pve anyway so it doesn't affect game numbers. Or maybe they're trying to squeeze out a few more final shape sales as it's required to play trials.

Idk I play with two 30+ year olds that hold 3.0 KDs I’ve seen it, it’s all a mentality

  • 30+ ain't old & it's not mentality, it's nature, you can have the strongest mind in the world but it still fades. Look at sport, premier league footballers are in their prime 28-32, but very few play past 37-38, & that's not even the real falloff, athletes are finished by the age of 30. Everything you need to be a top gamer, so reaction time, sight, dexterity, quick thinking, all start fading in your 40s, pro gamers like scump stop competing by 30, they're still very very good but they can't compete anymore & that's a tiny drop from 20 to 30, there's reasons why it's much harder to get a job as you hit 40+ because you're less productive, things just take longer even signals from the brain, & get progressively worse every 4-5 years. Now of course there's outliers, super fit healthy people will last longer than sedantry obese people who live on ultra processed food, but everyone falls off in their 40s, everyone. You only truly realise this when it happens to you, but it absolutely happens to us all. Now saying improve or get better, is fair. People absolutely need to put time in to do 'their' best & they will improve, but everyone has a bar, & the older the player the lower the bar after 40 at least, you could argue 35. But saying get good, when you're putting a 55yr old guy with 0.6 Vs a 20yr old with 1000 flawless runs & 4kd, ain't no getting gud for that guy it's simply not possible to compete

  • You’re comparing apples to the forbidden fruit from god here. I’m not saying a 50 year old will beat the best and be the best. He can for damn sure make it to a 1.5+. Taking the most extreme example possible in order to make good players seem as different as possible is good evidence for excuse making Just saying man.

  • No excuses from me, I don't know the guy & I don't play PvP outside of challenges, my skills left me 10 years ago & I can barely play pve.. Just trying to tell you how it is. Much depends on the player too, were they started, how much they play etc. But saying 1.5 isn't hard - that's well above average, you simply can't expect that from an older player, especially a guy who doesn't play much & works 12 hours a day, playing kids who play 8 hours a night. I had around a 2kd for years in cod, all cods for 4-5 years, destiny 1 i was around 1.8, never used meta just used what I wanted or had equipped for camos, challenges etc Now, over a decade later, nearly 50, I can barely go positive. You absolutely falloff & I'll never see 1.5 again

  • No u haven't. Uve seen people grind on the game for 8 hours a day and get better. Regular players can't improve in the pvp enviornment.

  • You 22? You're a baby, brother, trust me, you're approaching your prime! Men only mature around 28, then youre a man for 12 years then the falloff starts. You've a lifetime ahead of but your peak is your next 8 years or so from now. Getting older is cool in its own way, you make it work & you're a lot wiser but some things you can't fight, like ageing :( The two bits of advice id give myself at your age & it'll change your life & make getting older much easier, save money, even if it's only bits, if you work get a pension or an extra pension, you'll need it & be very thankful you did. Secondly, eat healthy, you do damage to your long term health by eating rubbish before 30. It's a different world growing up now, all the info is out there, it wasn't years ago. Oh & always respect people older than you, they've seen things you've yet to & made it through. With age comes knowledge, & a dropping kd 😂

Im gettong my pvp fix from destiny and playing a fun pve game. I do agree, put bluntly, that some ppl just aren't physically or mentally built for anything more complex than strikes though.

  • It's not just that, this playerbase has a lot of older players, you just can't improve after a certain age, not nearly enough anyway. Then there's the massive amount of add ons people use like paddles, xims, Cronus, mnk on console, strike packs, 0hz monitors & the big disparity Vs big TVs, WiFi Vs wired, 70 fov Vs 120 fov. It's a very very unbalanced experience & is getting worse, it rewards dedication & spending money, & young age. There's a reason why professional sports & athletes quit by 40 & the ones near 40 fall of noticeably, there's an even bigger falloff every 5 years or thereafter.

Yeah, there are a lot of factors, though not just age or hardware. My view on that is mostly based on raids instead of pvp. Theoretically, raids are imminently solvable, and few have truly hard parts from a purely mechanical input perspective, very few pinpoint or literally second precision timings. And yet a lot of ppl struggle with them and never seem to really get appreciably better, and I do mean never, and I don't mean just because they don't have practice, but some pplz young and old, are just not [something] enough to adapt or understand it. The obvious answer is intelligence (and i mean the broad interpretation), but intelligence has enough facets that it's an unsatisfactory answer by itself.

  • Oh yeah PvP is different, you can learn mechanics, patterns etc etc no issues with age in PvE, all you need is the hunger to succeed & willingness to fail & get back up again. I was strictly meaning PvP were you're playing against people with every possible advantage there's is no getting gud, but even on a level playing field, age determines limits to your maximum ability & 50 year you would never beat a 25yr old you consistently in game were all the skillsets needed are at their peak in your early 20s. Taking it literally, ignoring age & saying git gud we can all improve would mean people's peaks are their 80s & 90s when the reality is your peak in online shooters is early to mid 20s

Yeah I just meant some ppl aren't built to improve for some unquantifiable reason that I find odd from my perspective. You can give some ppl every advantage, and they'll still do poorly, even if they have the benefit of age. I mention raids because unlike pvp, they should be ultimately solvable with pve being a static puzzle, unlike pvp which is a fast constantly changing puzzle. but to some, they aren't solvable. Those same ppl generally do very poorly in pvp. And those who do well on pvp are more likely to be good at pve. And while it's definitely more common in older ppl, there are some very bad young ones too. I do think we're at a weird time though generationally, we're at a point we're we have our first generation of ppl who have been playing modern video games since childhood and we know that has a positive effect on the brain aging, it'll be interesting to see how that impacts age and the skill curve in games.
