The Nether and Rushdown Feedback from a player thats been here since the beginning

This comment is to the Devs of Destiny. I'll start buy saying that I've been playing Destiny since the beta of the first game in 2014. I was there, countless nights, killing Crota to get my Gjallarhorn. I've completed most of the content in Destiny 1 and 2 with the exception of the newer raids. I accepted your decision over time to remove outdated content from the game. You removed countless number of weapons from my inventory that I earned along the way, removed strikes from the playlist, and removed other content from the game, only for you guys to return it later on. First it was the Ice Breaker, then the Necrochasm, and I even repurchased my Gjallarhorn back for $30. I still kept playing. Its been over 10 years now. Two very long games. These games were fun because there was no other games out there that could come close to the looter-shooter co-op experience that this game offers. After The Final Shape I was worried how Destiny 2 was going to continue. Then I saw seasonal content, I completed the first Episode and was like "alright cool, new content and I don't have to buy DLC to get it." Then Episode 2 came out. I thought "awesome a whole new area to explore." Then I played the new activity. This is the first time I've been so frustrated by the direction of the game and my first ever post on these forums. I am very disappointed in the new content, specifically The Nether and Rushdown. The Nether has to be the most aggravating and frustrating experience that I've ever played in this game. It's not fun, even with other people in matchmaking. You guys turned this game into some sort of weird Destiny Rogue-lite experience and it is trash. The tormentor is the worst experience, almost impossible to beat solo without dying multiple times, no way to heal, flat and unhelpful "power-ups," the whole fight is awful. Today I log in and think, I'm gonna give it another go and I see a new strike called "RushDown." I was like "great, I love the Strikes." Only to be met with a almost Nightfall experience, locked in a room, being shot from every angle, and met with a ridiculous amount of de-buffs. I just have to ask, is your goal to make this game so frustratingly difficult to make people not want to play? Is the goal to weed out casual players that do not have the ability or time to own the best gear? Do you only want the best of the best to enjoy your game? Because if that is the goal then you have succeeded. I do not even want to log in, the game is just not fun anymore. I am not mad, I am just disappointed.

  • Rushdown, otherwise know as 'just the annoying parts' of strikes. A lot of the bosses you fight came at the end of interesting missions, but now we get the part with bosses with immunity phases and endless hordes of adds. Some people will like this, but I'm not a fan.

I too have been here since the beginning and completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m decent at this game but I’m no Esoterickk. I don’t like the lack of healing in the Nether and I don’t like getting constantly swarmed from all angles in Rushdown. I’m not here to tell you that I think it’s all fine. But I am here to tell you that it’s all very doable. I have soloed multiple Expert Nethers on all three characters. I do at least one a week per character and complete them with very little effort. I have made designated builds for the Nether to combat the no heal BS. I’d be happy to share DIM links if you’re interested. I have also completed the 13 boss triumph in Expert Rushdown. I don’t say this to brag or to insinuate that I’m some Destiny god (I’m not!). It’s to point out that if I—a regular Destiny veteran—can do it, so can you. It just takes a decent team, a solid build, and a degree of luck with boss encounters. I don’t like the never ending adds, the onslaught of negative modifiers, and the scarcity of Adept and double-trait weapons as much as the next person. But it’s not as bad as some people make it out to be. With a few changes, I think these activities can be very enjoyable and rewarding.

  • Makes me chuckle. Not your comment, which is very valid and expresses how many average players feel, rather the automatic responses from the same old names. I would love to know how many thousands of posts these same twenty accounts have made shouting down players like you.

Yeah I’m tired of the long form/rouge like content. Rush down and court of blades I actually enjoy. It’s just a straight up boss rush activity. No bs objectives. Just pure combat. I’ve been wanting something like this for years. Rushdown does have its quirks like some fights just being tedious and slow. But I love the idea behind it. I wish it was sticking around post guardian games Court of blades does have the loot issues and a lack of guaranteed shiny drop but the boons and randomness to the order and challenges keeps me on my toes just enough to enjoy. The challenges can be completely ignored except for a few like the runes that you can just brute force the encounters.

  • Sure sums up some things I have thought about this game more and more in recent years. Of course some of it is a skill issue, or gear issue, or reflexes issue. That doesn’t make it any less of a concern. When core activities become more of a job than fun for many, there is a problem. Just my thoughts. I don’t pretend to talk for everyone.

  • The Nether wouldn't be so bad if we could spawn in where we want to, but by the time I've killed the Tormentor I'm sick of playing and have no appetite for more mindless grinding.

Not being able to heal is awful. Even with the setups that most people use. I mean, I have my ways to proc healing but it usually involves killing ads. And many times during boss fights, especially in later rounds, you just get hit by some AOE nonsense, your health is at like 10% and when you step out of cover to try and kill an enemy to proc your healing, you’re immediately dead. That’s not challenging. That’s awful game design. Healing is a necessary part of the gameplay. Restricting it like this is just a terrible experience.

    • Honestly, I'm not a fan of Bungie taking the game into a more Roguelike direction either. There are currently way too many Roguelikes already on the market that came out in recent years. Even games that didn't start out as Roguelikes had an activity similar to the genre added in as DLC. Making Destiny into a Roguelike doesn't make it feel unique. If anything, it makes it feel like it's trying to copy a genre that has been done to death in the few years it was popular. Yes, Hades is a good game. Now stop copying it.

    • Today's Rushdown Quria encounter must be the most frustrating I have ever experienced. A GM is easier. With automated fireteam finder not even on the "warm-up" level. Ridiculous. Bungie seems to believe p...ing people off is good game design. Yes, there is enough stuff you can play alternatively, but as part of the GG title it feels like a big middle finger. Bungie has so many good stuff and creative ideas, so why? Why? Just unfun.

      • Completely disagree. Heresy is the best the seasonal model has been since menagerie. Heresy is giving me hope that the post-expansion content will start competing with the expansions. The Nether is such a unique experience compared to the previous seasonal cookie-cutter model. Rushdown isn’t perfect, but it’s a fresh new activity for the seasonal events - which is something we haven’t got for years. If the post-expansion content would’ve been consistently as good as Heresy, the player population would’ve have completely dropped out and we’d still be thriving. Bungie hasn’t got the game back up to it’s former glory and standards - but they are cooking. You can tell and feel they’ve changed the course of the ship and could get the game back on track.

          • The nether is the ONLY activity that has no health regen yet this means they are changing the entire game into a rogue like? You kids always seem to come up with the most insane takes.

          • But your profile says you joined in 2018. And you don't have a single badge completed. Not even stuff like a guardian games badge, which needs no raids. No badge was completed before reset, either, so where is that you completed old content. You claim you don't like rushdown. Sure, it has its challenge, but your max light level is 2002. Every activity says the required light just to be in, and then to play and achieve it's loot you need to be above that light. I myself im 2034 warlock, and I take precautions when I play stuff. It's never a walk in the park. I have started seeing a lot this where new players want to rush stuff but die more than revives are available. Maybe ask for help and find more suitable players, and considering your light level, stay back and let them carry you. Or play something that's appropriate for your level. I know myself. i won't be playing gm solo even when I see players doing it solo. So if someone does something, that doesn't mean it has to be done.

          • Reuse, don't bother creating new items, just put a few bones on it. Recycle, why bother giving us NEW areas to "explore" when you have a 200+ miles long ship, just put a few cosmetics on.

the barrow smg is trash . and the quest for it is way over cooked and bugged. l even have the hatchling perk, but the quest for the intrinsics is bugged out and won't launch the final part lol underwhelming to say the least. only thing that would make it ok is the artifact mod that by the way isn't even working yet. but if you had the mod there is way better auto rifles that are strand that it would work better with. big let down and the other perks for it, that aren't out yet are not anything that's going to help much , its just another smg. and a lot of grind for another useless smg.they nerfed the best smg and bring this trash in.cool another waste of time for a mid gun.

            • I totally agree!! but streamers and 1% of players will argue the opposite, the tendency of games is not to entertain but to live and work! most people no longer enter the game because they like it and they will enjoy the game as it was before!! Swen Vincke gave the base and it works example Split Fiction! and an example of how not to do new assassins…

            • It really does feel like they want the franchise to end, & have for 2 years since lightfall. They've alienated every aspect of the player base. My theory is backed up by an ex community manager who wrote on twitter just last week something about it's disgusting that management wanted destiny to end with lightfall & did everything they could to make it happen. It's been common knowledge for years that the Devs were tired if working on it years ago & there's almost none left now who worked on the early destiny game, they're all on marathon & have been for many years. The game is continuing because sony want it to, if numbers & profits continue to drop, or if marathon flops, it's all over.

              • My biggest complaint about Expert Rushdown is that it can be a bit over the top for most players and offers almost nothing in return, a common problem in this game. They added banes, on top of modifiers, on top of champions, on top of being underlevel, to GMs, and what we got? Nothing. I will wait and see what they will do with Frontiers, because I liked some of the weapons of this season, and the new artifact is very good. But is just a small bit of the whole game, and as a whole, the game is lacking a lot on many fronts.

                • They made this game amazing for about ten thousand people and that’s it. This game really does suck now and it’s a shame because it just didn’t have to be that way. I’m never playing Marathon either so I don’t know what these people are going to be doing for work in five years because there won’t be anyone left.

As for the frustrating things that keep being implemented, it's impossible not to think that a single or a group of persons purposely give weird directions to the devs. The question is: why though? 🤦‍♂️

                    • I just feel that the difficulty is done poorly, I feel like powergrind is completely redundant past 2010. you get limited or capped regardless. As a solo player I can't relax with the game anymore, I feel like I gotta sweat my -blam!- of in certain activities. Not all people will do raids and dungeons and master difficulty activities. They just want to shoot some guns with friends and that's it. Its a sensitive topic and I am glad you brought it up.

No matter what negative comments you get. Shrug them off. You are correct in your assessment. Last night I decided to run a few Rushdowns myself, even though I told myself I wasn’t going to after the first week. Calus was damn near impossible. I did get it done, but why, why on earth would you want to do that??? It’s just isn’t the same anymore. Hopefully they will have a Destiny 3 and make it some type of prequel. There would be so much potential with a prequel storyline
